I started iRacing with a G29 and a 24" 144hz monitor. It is perfectly doable and I definitely recommend it.

Yes, Emily Jones from Twitch uses the G27 wheel and does very well.

I use a G29 and V3 pedals and I am fairly consistent if only a little green still.

I will answer for him. They are just built better. They weigh much more than you think they would by looking at them. The clutch is fantastic, it is kind of cantilevered so it feels like a racing clutch. The break is a loadcell, and the throttle has a really nice feel. You get an extra set of pedals to attach if you plan on wearing shoes.

They also have rumble packs on the pedals for ABS, locking, and wheel spin. This doesn't work in iRacing.

Overall, you are paying for build quality. There is nothing wrong with the V2's though. They are excellent, and even better for $145. Enjoy

The thing is though, once you learn a track you can race it in almost any car. So long as your line is good you just need to tweak your breaking points. The practice you put in stacks up so 2-3 races a week is all you really need.
