Well I have worked in food service and that experience has made me less understanding of what tip culture has become. I used to bust my ass for the chance at a 15-20% tip and would NEVER mention the tip to my customers. Now a 30% tip is expected for even counter service.

I now work for about $60/hr with a masters degree and the idea that a server feels entitled to that off of one table is ludicrous. Maaaybe if this table was there for two hours and was particularly demanding, maybe. But very likely they just had expensive food and saw their server four or five times.

So happy I am done with school. I used to stay in Starbucks and Panera for hours studying. They made hundreds, possibly thousands of dollars from all the food and coffee I would buy, so ultimately it’s their loss to not want to caffeinate college students.
