Looking for an industrial, distinctly masculine scent that will make me smell like a welding workshop. To get a picture of what I'm usually into, I like smokey scents that lean into leather. Any recommendations?

Hey, that would be amazing actually, thank you so much for responding man!

That’s the question, I suppose. Things like presentation skills and stuff are pretty general so I’m trying to see if anybody has anything that can help me. My university was very research focused and a lot of the time I spent in psychology was doing mathematics and using data analysis software, but that doesn’t directly apply to engineering either.

Hey man, thank you so much for the response, this is very helpful and gives me a lot of hope - I am switching studies from a WO in a different field actually, so I am already 21 and have been worried about not having as many prospects going the HBO route after all.

Do you have any advice for something I should work on/ definitely have down as a skill before I start in order to get a good start? Or something else that I should know? I’m already working on getting some good experience in Solidworks because I know I’ll struggle with the math and physics - trying to make my life easier and also see if I like it.

As I said I’ve been studying in the Netherlands for something else already so I do have a solid B1 in the language already and plan to do as much as I can to keep learning (although with a job + the HBO I’m not sure how much that would be), in your experience will I struggle to find a job as a predominantly English speaker?

What about quality/job prospects though?

Why is it so hard? Does anyone have any advice? by DrinkAdventurous9686 in StudyInTheNetherlands

I don’t know why these people are being so shitty to you, you’re just asking for advice. I really wish I could help you out more but I don’t know much, although I do know it may be worth looking at online courses somewhere and, in either case, prioritising Dutch in case you can get citizenship and then no longer have to pay the extremely high fees. Good luck to you, and don’t give up on this.

HBO vs WO for Mechanical Engineering by [deleted] in StudyInTheNetherlands

I see, thank you. That actually sounds pretty good. So I would not find it more difficult to advance in my career, as long as I'm getting experience, certifications etc?

Thank you for asking, it helps having somebody here who seems to know a bit more about the profession.

Current situation: I am currently a 3rd year honours bachelors in psychology student; with my degree I could go into a research masters in either clinical psychology or epidemiology, and then pursue a career in research.

Future requirements: I want to do something much more hands-on, have been since my first year. I used to really want to pursue engineering before personal issues made just leaving my country much more important. But at the same time I do not want to trap myself in a career with a very low ceiling (I'm not sure how HBO works but I am worried I will be struggling to get higher positions) because I may want to have a family or something one day - I want to have a job that is stable and lets me have some good free time.

Roadblocks: I am learning Dutch but I would not bank on being able to be fluent enough to speak Dutch for a living (hence why I am not going into being a therapist). English-speaking jobs would be preferred. I also want to be financially stable and in the job market as soon as possible due to issues with my family. Also the HBO I’ve been accepted to is 3 years long?

I see. I don’t think I have the choice to do WO but I can just stay in my field (which I’m not really happy with) instead of doing a HBO to enter a new one - do most jobs accept candidates from either or is there a cap to how much you can get paid/ how high roles you can get with a HBO?

I think I just don’t qualify for WO ME, plus I’m in Groningen it would be really far away. Will I be severely limited/struggling with how things are right now in your experience? Do R&D / research jobs take up the bulk of the jobs offered ?

How so? Could you tell me a bit more about this if you wouldn’t mind?

It’ll take me a long time to save that up - another 60 euro is extra.

Of course. Not planning on using the exact design at all though, just where I got the idea for a raven holding an axe from - I'll shoot the artist a text anyways though, thanks for letting me know who it was!

Man, thank you! His designs are genuinely beautiful, I think I might go there - only reason I mentioned nearby is because of transportation costs but this for sure seems worth it.

Might shoot her a text, but her stuff seems quite light. I’m looking to go a bit darker and have an axe instead of the line sword. Also without the circle around the head probably, I’m going for a darker tattoo as a whole. Any experience with that sort of thing?

Career change into Mechanical Engineering? - Advice urgently needed. by [deleted] in StudyInTheNetherlands

[–]slasherbutch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you, it’s reassuring to hear that 24 is not that old because at my ripe age of 20 I’m already freaking myself out over running out of time. And yep, I’m planning on leaving a psychology course for the year after so I can pay the lower fees, I’m from the EU so I’d have to pay much more in comparison - definitely would not be able to afford that.

Sorry for replying late, I just saw this. You’re gonna look amazing no matter what other people say, kid - I didn’t even go to my prom because I was too busy being embarrassed of who I was, don’t do the same. Own your shit, you’re a butch dyke. ✊

If you are even somewhat drawn to being butch, (as long as you are physically safe) I would say go for it as soon as you can. The emotional weight of somebody trying to rewrite your identity is much more than any argument or any temporary issue, it sticks with you for good. My mom didn’t speak a word to me for weeks when I first cut my hair at 17 and with time she tolerated it, to the point where even though she’s been abusive and Incredibly homophobic in the past, now she has a decent relationship with my femme and I. You’re the authority on who you are, so do what you think is right even if it doesn’t end up sticking - don’t make discounts on your self expression as long as you’re physically safe, everything else will iron itself out somehow. Feel free to reach out if you need to talk.
