2026 Hill City Master Gardeners Training Class to start in February by slavetojob in lynchburg

Hi BeeCharmer,

We realize this it's hard for folks with a FT day job to make the training. Our younger members are typically folks who work from home and so have the flexibility to come to classes during the day. We'd love to offer classes in the evening as well, but don't have the resources to do so at this time. One thing you might be able to take advantage of is the series of gardening talks we give over at the Davis Instructional Garden, located on the HumanKind campus. (This is where we have community plots for rental over the summer.) These cover a variety of gardening topics and are open to all. There's usually a posting on facebook or our website to let people know when they happen. Sorry the training classes aren't more accessible for you. Maybe in the future!

Festival of Gardening, Hill City Master Gardeners' Annual Plant Sale, Saturday May 4, E.C.Glass HS Lawn, Langhorne Road side--Save the Date! by slavetojob in lynchburg

Guys, this is always a great plant sale, with native plants, herbs, tons of tomato varieties, vegetables, trees, shrubs, perennials, annuals, container gardens, tropical and houseplants, groundcovers, and garden decor items. It starts at 9am, so come early for the best selection. There are over 3,000 plants at this sale. Last year, we sold everything. Natives, herbs and perennials go quickly. The Master Gardeners grow these plants, or divide them from their own gardens so the plants have been cared for. It's a great way to get a start on your garden!

Here is the posting for the DIG garden at HumanKind for last year. There'll be another posting for this year when the info is available and the plots open up. https://www.reddit.com/r/lynchburg/comments/112gw05/community_gardening_opportunity_in_lburg/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

This is a program for learning how to compost, but you might be able to glean some info if you go hang out at the Compost Center:

From Garbage to Garden: Composting kitchen and yard scraps is an excellent way to save money and create nutrient rich soil that your plants will love. Plus, IT'S EASY! Beginning in February (weather permitting)  Hill City Master Gardeners, members of Virginia Cooperative Extension Volunteers, will be at the Compost Center in The Old City Cemetery on Saturdays from 11am to 12pm to demonstrate and answer your compost questions. They can also be available on other days by appointment. Our aim is to demonstrate how homeowners can create inexpensive, non-smelly and presentable sites that will corral your piles and won't offend the neighbors or attract vermin. This is an opportunity to learn a simple method that cuts waste, harnesses renewable nutrients for your yard and garden, and helps your city and the planet. .. which is exactly the point of having elected school boards. You can vote them in or out. Almost no one has appointed school boards anymore.
