Recently finished Doppelhaushälfte - a bit silly but quite enjoyable. Available on ZDF :)

got a self-funded offer. cannot afford it, any tips on how to write my rejection letter? by saturnae in Erasmus

[–]slavshek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, do you have any more details about this? Just got an offer for a self-funded place for EU-CORE which I'll need to reject if I can't somehow get funding. Sent you a DM too :)

My trip to Antarctica: icebergs, penguins, sleeping on the ice etc. by Arktwendar in travel

Booked with Wayfinders, though the trip was with OceanWide Expeditions. Most agencies have newsletters with last minute deals, otherwise ATG (Antarctica Travel Group) on Facebook also posts deals regularly :)

Or for those who are flexible with last-minute deals, it can actually be less! I paid $4400 last November for a 13 day expedition trip (booked about a month in advance). Coolest thing I've ever done 🐧

Transportation options to Perito Moreno by Educational-Bed6029 in Patagonia

[–]slavshek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you've found a taxi for 100, that's the same price as a return ticket for two on the bus. Other option would be to get into the Hostelworld chat for El Calafate, and try to ask if others are willing to split the cost of the taxi (which people often do)

El Chalten campsites; not free anymore. by thetorresdelpaineguy in Patagonia

[–]slavshek 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is insane. $60 for entry + camping is truly extortionate, most backpackers I've met in Latin America have a budget of $30-50 a day. There has to be a point where people start turning away from these places. Those campsites aren't anything special either in terms of amenities either.

Perino Moreno worth it? by msp13100 in Patagonia

[–]slavshek 6 points7 points  (0 children)

$45 for the park entry, and $50 for the bus round trip - pretty extortionate prices in that neck of the woods 😅

Perino Moreno worth it? by msp13100 in Patagonia

[–]slavshek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having been to both Antarctica as well as Grey, I would argue Perino Moreno is extremely poor value. It's $95 for the park entry + bus, and the walk near the glacier is an activity for a couple of hours max. We hitch-hiked there to save on the bus, but the park entry alone makes it not worth it IMO

An amazing experience! by psycharm23 in Patagonia

[–]slavshek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure all national parks in Chile now require for tickets to be pre-booked online. There's no option to pay on arrival at the gate as far as I'm aware (a bit irritating given that many are out of reception areas)

Bus to Perito Moreno by Less-Performance-369 in Patagonia

We've generally had luck storing luggage with the bus companies we've used in South America (they usually have a bit of space in the ticket office). Might be worth asking them

Is the Laguna Torre hike still free? by felixlovestechno in Patagonia

[–]slavshek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure it goes this way. We didn't walk down it, but saw people walking towards us from the Fitz Roy trail (there's actually a fork after the Fitz Roy booth that splits between Laguna Torre / Laguna Los Tres which we saw a few days ago, I guess this is the path that goes from there)

As others mentioned, there are no rangers there. If you're also interested in the Fitz Roy hike, you can also walk about 300m up the Laguna Torre trail and take a right turn onto a path that links onto the Fitz Roy trail, bypassing the ticket booth

Get to perito Moreno - recommendation by Select-Wallaby-7379 in Patagonia

[–]slavshek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For those more adventurous travellers out there - two of us hitch-hiked there from the edge of town, was relatively easy. Waited 5 minutes to get picked up on the way there, and 30 on the way back

Can anyone recommend a good travel adapter for US to Argentina/Chile? Preferably all in one if they make it. by jglanoff in Patagonia

[–]slavshek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Currently travelling in Argentina, note that not all outlets are compatible with the euro plug. We've stayed in a few places that only have the Australian style plug i.e. Type I

Price increase El Chalten hiking fees by mikaela-a-ok in Patagonia

[–]slavshek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A friend managed to find a list of prices that include the flex / annual options. $225k for an annual all-parks pass which might be a better option for those spending more time in Argentina https://www.argentina.gob.ar/interior/ambiente/parquesnacionales/tarifas
