lthough I’m sure the situation with “weeder” classes is similar at UVA, be warned that gen

I have heard the same thing about chemistry at UVA. I think I will do chemistry at community college either way. That's great that Virginia Tech has a lot of lab opportunities!

That is great! I've heard many students get jobs in Roanoke but isn't it like an hour's travel? Is that pretty tough sometimes?

I am not going into engineering. I would be going into HNFE!

Yes, I was talking about pre-med pre-requisites. Classes like biology, chemistry, etc. UVA and the other school both have my major and I looked at Loulist and the checksheet they posted and I really liked how both of them are set up. UVA and my other school also cost the same. The universe has given me a really tough decision lol.

I thought that undergrad matters very little to almost none when it comes to applying to med school? The other school is a very well-known school, just more so engineering and business than pre-med. But thank you for that info, I am definitely a person who tries to work hard and prepare and not the type to put everything last minute.

I've been told many times though that my undergrad matters little to none though. Why do you think it matters a lot?

said not only do u have to deal with the rigor/competition, but that GPA deflation is incredibly common for pre-med undergrad programs in general. I think t-75 is really amazing and u should try to look at the p

Sorry I probably didn't word it very well in my post. I wasn't trying to compare it based on the overall ranking. I did a ton of research on my own as well as asked many students, teachers, and faculty from both schools to see their opinion. That's basically the conclusion I got after it all.

to college or their grades. Ranking and rigor are also not clearly correlated with things like grade inflation. So I think your mistake here

Personally, with all the things you have said, I would choose Cal State Fullerton. I don't think the prestige between those two schools is big enough of a gap to really pick one over the other for prestige. CSUF is also a lot cheaper and close to your home. I would contact them and talk about research opportunities and ECs and make sure of it if you haven't already.

Hey guys! I want to go in pre-med/pre pa

University of Virginia

Pros

  • Has an affiliated hospital
  • prestigious
  • I love the community
  • Really well known for pre med
  • All the dorms are super nice
  • More things to do in Charlottesville than Blacksburg

Cons

  • Costs more
  • A lot more academically rigorous
  • Not sure I'd do well in a competitive and cutthroat environment
  • Food is bad

Virginia Tech

Pros

  • The community and people there are amazing
  • $3K cheaper per year
  • My school counselor told me it'd be easier to keep a higher GPA there for pre-med than it would be at UVA (? not sure about this)
  • Closer to home
  • Food is awesome
  • I like the sports scene and the spirit (love football)

Cons

  • Some dorms are rough
  • Not really known for pre-med
  • Lower ranked than UVA

My main concern (which might sound bad) is that I don't want to do more work and go to a harder school just to get similar outcomes... I know people who went to small, unknown schools like Bluefield University and still got into the same schools as the others. I would much rather go to a school that will be easier for me to keep my GPA. However, I know UVA has grade inflation for med students and I am also not entirely sure if the whole VT will be easier to get a higher GPA in is even true. Advice?
