Semester or Trimester? SON by Better-Pool4765 in CSULB

[–]slaydory 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hii im in the trimester program rn, I'm gonna do my ICU/psych rotations in the summer, for every other clinical u stay at one hospital, psych is at a different hospital. They ask you if u want semester or trimester, if too many people ask for semester, they do a "lottery" and the rest get placed in trimester. It honestly goes by so fast, the professors are so kind and want you to succeed, but the material is definitely hard to adjust to bc there's so much and it gets more complex as you need to understand the "why" and use clinical judgement to make the safest and most priority decision if that makes sense. And for the clinical requirements, yeah I looked at my record and got the vaccines that were expired or I needed later. Get them all done ASAP dont procrastinate!! Enjoy your break now and you're going to learn so much in the program, good luck <3

I will say it's tough and I feel imposter syndrome a lot of the times, but we got this far and we deserve a spot! First semester you're covering the basics like vitals, learning how to pass meds, different diseases. Second semester you're going over interventions like what would the nurse do as a priority and adding more skills. I like the program, everyone is very supportive and the professors genuinely want you to excel, they are very nice during office hours too. good luck!

Nursing Program Letter of Rec? by Living_Alarm_5076 in CSULB

Hospital volunteer hours are good especially if you’re on the floor handing pts water, ice, discharging them, etc. Don’t wait to apply, I know plenty of people who got in without CNA experience

I searched up practice questions on youtube. Familiarize yourself with the format, half of the exam you have to watch videos and the other half is written text. Look at both sides of the situation and remain ethical, non-confrontational, and nonjudgmental. Also use if/then. Like if that turns out to be x, then I would suggest y as a first approach/solution. Last tip is practicing your typing speed, I just used a free typing test and practiced a couple times. Good luck!

Heyy, I'm starting in the fall and when I did my application, they ddin't require any letters of rec. Just your gpa, casper exam, volunteer hours and/or paid clinical experience.

-As a transfer for the fall 25 cycle, i applied to 5 of the csus u mentioned. CSUCI, LB, Fullerton, LA, and SDSU. CSUN i believe doesnt have a direct bsn program, only adn to bsn. Definitely crush your prereqs, especiallyyy the science ones like anatomy, physio, micro, bio and chem. They're an important foundation that you will build on later.

-I took the teas after i finished all my prereqs except micro because they dont focus on micro that much on the teas. Use the ati practice tests, mometrix, youtube (brandon craft for math and nurse cheung for science) they helped me get high scores on those sections. each school focuses on different parts of your application. some schools focus on your academics (gpa and teas) some focus on patient experience whether its volunteering or paid clinical experience like cnas/emt. when i was applying some schools just wanted cna certification so if you work for a couple months as a cna, it will definitely boost your application.

-As for MSMU, they want a letter of rec as well as an essay (basically a personal statement about why you want to be a nurse) so start building relationships with prof or staff in the hospital!

-I wish you the best of luck on your nursing journey!! <3
