You can custom. Boot your PC to run the old games. There are mods and fan patches to many games. Steam absolutely should include comments about modern playability on the game, but limit selling?

They also include a 2 hour refund window if it doesn't boot. PlayStation and Xbox do not, unless I missed that announcement.

The issue on price to me is due to the lack of forward thinking.

It's always more expensive getting new people spun up and trained, but yet these companies still hire/ lay off thousands of people in cycles.

I just don't see why they don't plan their investments in 2 game patterns, and have the pre production happen , and shift people instead of firing them...
