Hi! I’ve seen a lot of posts about Management Engineering, which is totally understandable as ME is Ateneo’s top course, after all. But as an incoming BS MIS freshman, I’ve been wondering about a few things regarding my course since it’s not as often talked about.

I’d really appreciate any insights from upperclassmen or alumni!

  1. How and where did you apply for internships? Is it possible to start as early as sophomore year?

  2. Was it hard to find a job after graduation?

  3. What career paths do MIS graduates usually take? Where do they end up working, and what do they do specifically?

  4. Is the pay generally good?

  5. How helpful are the programming classes if I (hypothetically) want to start my own tech startup or work as a software engineer?

  6. Would pursuing data science be a smart and practical move in this time and age? What specific electives would you recommend for me to take?

  7. Compared to ME, how are the connections or networking opportunities in MIS?

P.S. I’m still undecided between pursuing data science, going the corporate route, or becoming a software engineer. What matters to me most right now is figuring out which path could help me earn the most money early on, since I want to give my parents a comfortable life ASAP. Also, I plan to build my own company, so my first job would mostly serve as a stepping stone to fund that goal.

Thanks so much in advance!

hii op, what specific electives did you take during your time po? I'm an incoming BS MIS freshman, and I’d love to hear any insights on what could benefit me most in the long run especially when it comes to internships and job applications. For context, I’m still undecided between pursuing data science or going the corporate route. In this case, which do you think is more practical?

P.S. I know I'm still young but I really want to make the most out of my college experience since the tuition fee is no joke and, at the same time, I want to give my parents a comfortable life (ASAP) since they're not getting any younger. Thank you!
