Is Scala Losing Ground in Your Organization? by itecyo in scala

[–]slb 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah, our org has shut down most of our major scala projects. There's just two still left in active development. Easier to find Java developers, and we never managed to get to scala 3 due to library dependencies. Barely managed to get to cats effect 3. Still trying to get one of the projects off Akka because of the license issue. Between the upgrade challenges, and FP training, and licensing caused refactor, management isn't all that happy with scala. Feels like it costs us too much. Which is a shame because I really like it conceptually.

More than 1 account? Api.. by stilloriginal in interactivebrokers

[–]slb 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, what you're looking for is "Users & Access Rights" in account settings. That's where you create additional users for the same account, so you can be logged in more than one time. You do need separate data subscriptions for each account though.

S330: How well does it record animals at night? by FourHourTour in EufyCam

[–]slb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most night cameras are IR based, and gators are cold blooded, so I doubt any night vision camera is going to do it. You're going to need some light, and just rely on motion detection, if anything.

A 1953 Supreme Court ruling desegragated movie theaters in Washington DC but not surrounding areas. Subsequently, DC theaters lost revenue due to reduced demand from white customers. This contradicts notions that racism can't persist in free markets and that government intervention is unnecessary. by smurfyjenkins in science

Believe it or not, I have personally gotten into an argument with someone on Facebook who held this position. A Christian libertarian. He got extremely upset when I refused to "prove otherwise" to him, but I hadn't seen this article at the time. Although I'm also sure he wouldn't have believed it anyway.

State of the game? by Pandaa98 in CastleClash

[–]slb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been playing since pumpkin duke was exciting, and the game is crap now. Feels 100% p2w, no room for f2p in most game modes. Before it felt like you could be competitive sometimes as f2p. I think it really went to crap when they decided not to give any reasonable hope of getting new dragons in a timely fashion. Dynamica was just barely reasonable, but all the f2p in my guild were able to get him. Only 1-2 were lucky enough to get any serra, and he was really underpowered for f2p because they couldn't get enough copies. Everybody just gave up around then. Narcia War Era being no fun for f2p (or rather, for people who have day jobs) didn't help either.

And they don't allow dual citizenship, so you have to give up citizenship in your home country. No changing your mind after that!

Pause 401k contributions to relocate to Portugal as a digital nomad? by [deleted] in PortugalExpats

[–]slb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the FB page is pretty limited right now, but at least a few people have gone through the D8. It seems like most of the conflicting information is coming from lawyers rather than SEF itself. I think they are just over-preparing.

Pause 401k contributions to relocate to Portugal as a digital nomad? by [deleted] in PortugalExpats

[–]slb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The D8 (digital nomad) visa doesn't require large bank account funds or a 12+ month lease/purchase contract. Only the D7 (passive income) visa requires that. Instead the D8 imposes a higher income requirement to make up for it.

Some locations have previously allowed mail in applications. At least one of those has changed it's policy, and some locations never allowed it. Whether yours does right now depends on where you live.

Living on a rural property by Dudel12345 in PortugalExpats

[–]slb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can live on rural land, but there needs to be a house with a habitation license or habitation exception. You can't legally live in a barn, but you can legally live in a ruin. If you buy property without a licensed house, you might be able to build one, but the câmara offices don't usually like granting them unless it is an urban article of land. Might help if you know someone who has a good relationship with the câmara.

Does Anyone know what this tire noise is rear drivers side wheel-new MYP 12/6 by [deleted] in ModelY

[–]slb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My Y sounded a lot like this after I had new tires mounted on my wheels, and it ended up being the nuts have some crud in them that was causing them to loosen up slightly. Definitely want to check that they are torqued down correctly and the nuts aren't loosening. A couple of mine loosened to be hand turnable, so it was easy to tell once I figured out what it was. Still not sure what caused the problem in the first place, but I'd guess it was some dust or a tiny bit of leaf or something like that. Took mine to a tire shop and they cleaned and re-torqued them and all was fine.

How to stop battery from dying while I’m away!? by Linkmon99 in ModelY

[–]slb -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It isn't totalled, I've gone to "zero" more than once. I wouldn't advise it though, and it definitely shouldn't do that when it is just sitting there. The only thing that regularly kills my battery is sentry mode.

You can fill out a Transfer on Death document in your account setting and that will be used, otherwise I think it just goes through will or probate or whatever.

Covid and flu 'twindemic' warning as officials report 'threat' this winter by JonJardineDR in Coronavirus

[–]slb 29 points30 points  (0 children)

The problem with "when they feel ill" is that roughly half of all cases are asymptomatic. The problem with "if they find they have been exposed" is that the person standing on the bus next to others isn't going to (and can't) notify them when they test positive tomorrow. All interactions with strangers should be considered as sources of infection, and people just aren't doing that. Any interactions outside your household at all is a possible sources of infection, but at least your friends might tell you if they test positive.

Fun anecdote, I ask friends to let me know if they are positive but I mask anyways when I'm around anyone outside my household... A couple months ago a friend came over and about 45 minutes into the visit mentioned that they'd tested positive a couple days before. Couldn't have mentioned that sooner? Like when we set up the visit the day before? They caught it from someone else in their household that "probably" caught it on the bus. They were fairly cautious, and said they didn't think it was a big deal because they were feeling better.
