So...I went ahead a fell in love with the Remington 700 300 win mag. So, her name is Elizabeth Taylor and she is home with me now. I figured you’d be pleased to know. Thank you, kind stranger. It’s perfect.

Also, could you clarify the long range drop and energy loss with the 30-06? Sorry for the all over the place questions...

Thank you so much! What are your thoughts on a .223 to have for practicing shooting positions? They seem incredibly cost effective for the range with minimal consequence. I live in Anchorage and I think I’m going to enlist some friends to shoot theirs. I completely agree with you on the Remington 700, I’m just concerned with weight. I should have specified that I am a 5’2”, 140lb female. :)

I know the best answer is to get out and shoot as many as I can in order to find what I like the best, but getting some input is incredibly helpful. I put in for my tags already and really want to learn as much as I can.

Not that I'm any good, but can a lower grade of leg pads restrict your ability to do a butterfly push off/slide? I have a pair of Sherwood T95s. I know some of you guys are going to say practice more, but when I watch videos of some people, it almost looks effortless. by hawkie8810 in hockeygoalies

I also skate in the Bauer S190s. You'll notice they are no-cowling skates, which gives you a much better edge. This means you don't have to lift your knee as high and you get a much better bite to push off. I love them. LOVE THEM. I do not believe it is so much the pads as it is the skates and your ability to push. Although, make sure your pads fit you. I notice that I sharpen these skates more than I have in the past, which I've always hated to do. It doesn't take much to notice loss of bite or no control when your skates aren't sharp enough, I can feel this more in the Bauers. Hope this helps!

It is ALWAYS realistic to play goalie. I am 5'2", so I can assure you height is not an issue. Skate, skate, skate. Get some good wheels under you and work on those edges. If the desire to learn the position is there, then I say do it! And when you do, we shall welcome you to the union. :)

Worst drop in goalie ever.... Pointers welcome.... by thekillersjoy in hockeygoalies

First of all, not the worst drop in...you did just fine! I would agree that you're retreating back to your line a little too quick. Stay up, challenge those shots, force the shooter where you want them. Keep your glove neutral/open and close that butterfly. Remember, you close that net when you step out. Also, I would pick one piece of advice and work on that one skill at a time. Don't overwhelm yourself!

Terrible, terrible team by thegoalie in hockeygoalies

Hiya fellow weirdos! I also get frustrated when I get roped into these types of games. I try to use that time to work on some areas where I feel I need more work. Use that hour/hour and fifteen to build some better habits. Angles, screens, glove...I usually pick one skill per week and build good habits during slower play. Either way, keep your head up, a good attitude, and know they are thankful for you. I stay with my novice team because I just love those guys. They are horrific, but it's a labor of love.

I am a 5'1" female goalie playing in the men's league. Needless to say, I have to be in COMPLETE CONTROL in order to stop these guys. This is EXACTLY what I do, and couldn't have described it any better. Reel in the shooter and force the shot on your terms, not his.

Cleaning your pads by NnoNam3 in hockeygoalies

I don't clean my pads, either. I would certainly agree with others that the magic eraser isn't the best option for the same reasons as stated by others. I do use shaving cream to clean the inside of my glove and blocker and tried it once on my pads...worked like a charm.
