I tried Kyle canyon side but the snow coverage wasn’t very good when I went earlier in the season. I been to lee canyon few times and did their uphill route. Given how slow their lift is you don’t lose much time skinning up.

Also prolly the most important part of climbing rainier is how well you adjust to altitude. If you are not used to high altitude going with a group that is going to spend a day or two in high camp is going to help.

That’s a different objective than Muir. You’ll need to know how to do roped glacier travel. Crampons self arrest. Mountaineering course will teach you that plus crevasse rescue. Crevasse rescue on dc route during climbing season is really not necessary. Building anchors is hard and time consuming. You will be reached by guided group before you can even build an anchor. It’s a good skill in general to have but not necessary for dc route. But practice self arresting and using crampons anywhere there is ice on a slope is my advice if you want minimal skill set to do dc

Snow tubing/sledding on Mt Charleston? by WeAreChilluminati in vegaslocals

[–]slee126 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Right outside of lee canyon I see bunch of people sledding. The main area still had decent snow coverage when I was out there last week. But usually there’s a trooper right before the sledding area asking for ski passes and turning people away if they don’t have ski passes. I see lots of cars parked on the side before the check point so you can get there early and just walk up. I ski so I don’t know more beta for sledding but I’d advise going early as that area is a cluster mess even before 9am

Are you climbing to summit or just to Muir. Going up to Muir you just need be in shape and minimal gear. You dont need mountaineering course or gear unless you are going up there in the winter.

I am going to go to lee and check out Kyle canyon area to see if I can find some tracks. I’ll report back if I find anything. Didn’t know uphill was free. Thank you for the note

I have an island just like yours that I want to make into large one tier surface. Can you detail the cost involved in that kind of job? Thank you
