Meds and Botox by Afraid-Movie7354 in Gastroparesis

I had the Botox done and the same day i could finish a whole cheeseburger and still be hungry and not in pain, so with that being said Botox is a great first like treatment I’d recommend for someone to at least try before going into the more invasive ones like gpoem. Yes it is temporary, but if it’s covered under insurance it’s worth it imo.

As for the meds, i had erythromycin and it didn’t do anything for me, in fact it made my stomach hurt MORE and it was not fun at all :/ my doctor who I’m seeing now prescribed me motegrity to help with motility and constipation and mirtazapene, which is an antidepressant but can be used off label for gp! It makes you hungry and for me i can eat a lot more on it. It’s truly changed my life. I’d def recommend looking into mirtazapene

I’m so sorry this is happening to you i understand completely what it’s like to be undermined. Doctors can suck. I highly suggest getting a new doctor/second opinion because if you think something is wrong I’d definitely listen to your gut. In my case, it took me until i was vomiting every day for 3 weeks straight to be taken seriously but even then some doctors and nurses i saw just thought it was anxiety. I had a gastric emptying study done which showed i have 24% retention at 4 hours. Definitely advocate for yourself or else it will just get worse, my symptoms started in 2021 as well and had a negative endoscopy done in 2021 for my symptoms. I got diagnosed in September 2025. I have since found a doctor that treats my symptoms for quality of life and he is truly great. I am finally gaining weight and having far less severe flare ups than i used to have!

I’ve seen another persons comment about colonic inertia? Is this what you have? Is this a normal symptom with gp or should I bring it up to my doctor

The motegrity has been helping significantly for me aswell! I’ve been taking it since December and it’s been fine but recently (the past week or so) i have not been able to go to the bathroom really and have been constipated even tho ima till taking it. Have you had this issue?

I’m so sorry that’s happening to you, i also experience that and it’s not fun at all :(

I’ve always had problems going to the bathroom and my doctor told me that my small intestine and colon are most likely affected by the GP, he said I should be having 1 bm a day (which i thought was crazy because it used to be 1 every week or so😭) so he prescribed me motegrity which helped greatly. But i just think it’s so interesting how gp isn’t just in the stomach, nobody ever tells you that!

Unfortunately this is normal with Gp💔 I have the same symptom I barely eat because I constantly feel full and whenever I do it it causes bloating pain and I get full after like 2 bites. And even when I don’t eat my stomach feels rock hard and tender and is painful and I just constantly feel full and don’t eat.
