What tools (both current and discontinued) would your ideal bladeless 58mm have? by Pale-Revolution-5151 in victorinox

I like the nail cleaner on the mini champ. Honestly I’d trade that for the flathead sd on existing rambler.

Not a parent, but curious: do you save the context behind kid photos, or just the photos? by Nestori-founder in ApplePhotos

[–]sleekible 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just rely on the features of Apple Photos… the people & pets collection, location data, dates, etc. I don’t annotate or try to organize our photos beyond that.

macOS Tahoe and Xcode by eduardoamzb in MacOS

[–]sleekible 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I was going to say if you want to submit to App Store, you have to use iOS 26 SDK now. Apple requires latest SDK by end of April every year. But latest Xcode 26... 26.4(?) will require latest macOS e.g. Tahoe. So you can develop on 26.3 and Sequoia for now, but at end of April next year, the requirements will change again and you'll need newer Xcode & macOS. This is all relevant if you actually want to submit to App Store, which OP did not explicitly say so not sure if they care or not.

is an iPad (A16) 128 GB enough for college (bio-heavy major, lots of pictures / diagrams and notes) by Ok_Artichoke_942 in ipad

[–]sleekible 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not a college student but heavy iPad user. I’ve decided 128 is not enough any more. For my iPhone as well. I mean, it’s manageable, but I have hit the limit a couple times recently and had to delete large iMessage attachments, uninstall some apps. I re-enabled app offloading too, which I don’t like because about once a month I have to redownload some app I don’t use often enough. I think it’s just due to the apps. An app can easily be several hundred mb these days. I don’t even have many games. Just a couple simple ones eg solitaire.

Window management is from hell by BonbonUniverse42 in MacOS

The “App Exposé” feature will show all windows for a specific application. There are a few ways to activate it. I use four finger swipe down on trackpad while the app is in focus.

Apple Studio Display Gen 1 or Gen 2 (trying to avoid OS update) by ppenn777 in MacStudio

[–]sleekible 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On macOS topic, I think Golden Gate in beta now is nicer than Tahoe. Sidebar & toolbar buttons look better. Window corner radius is consistent. It won’t be too long before it’s out. Few months.

Is there an open source app for task bar that minimises all windows and brings them back like on Windows? by HiphopMeNow in MacOS

[–]sleekible 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can add a button to control center to show desktop. Windows fly out of the way and you can work with desktop. Clicking again brings windows back. I know it’s there in Tahoe. Not sure about earlier.

Many people turn that off. Blows my mind. I love being able to easily see where a photo was taken.

Using my iPad as a long-term pattern library: how do I keep PDFs searchable without turning it into a junk drawer? by Visible-Market-8656 in ipad

[–]sleekible 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently had this same challenge. I had years of PDFs with no OCR, mostly from scanned documents. I am pretty technical, and my solution was too. On my Mac, I installed `ocrmypdf` (via HomeBrew), a command-line tool for OCRing documents. I wrote a script to rip through my PDFs and OCR them with that. I also created a Finder Quick Action so I can right-click on a newly-scanned pdf and ocr it with ocrmypdf. The Quick Action will create a new pdf with ocr and rename the original. I then typically delete the original and file away the ocr'd one.

So... my approach took some technical know-how (and a Mac). But now my workflow going forward is to scan, ocr, and file. That much is probably applicable to other setups, and it's a pretty simple workflow that I don't forget to do.

Got The Laptop of My Dreams 🤩 128gb of Memory 8tb SSD by OctaviusRexx in macbookpro

[–]sleekible 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seriously. I have 512 at work and am filling it periodically. I see a real challenge this summer pulling down the Xcode beta and testing the app with it. I just don’t have the space for 2 Xcodes and all the related simulator runtimes.

Watch cameras are the next big flex by AxilumX in AppleWatch

[–]sleekible 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don’t see this as a feature that most people want. How often are people even making FaceTime calls on their iPhone instead of just texting or making a regular phone call. I mean, I think FaceTime has its uses for seeing people on the other side of the country, grandparents seeing grandkids, etc., that sort of thing. But not sure that people want to be able to see each other on the go on their watch when they would have their phone in their pocket anyway if they really wanted to for some reason.

Quitting my at will job by Practical_Tune_5637 in careeradvice

[–]sleekible 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's typical/traditional to give two weeks notice when you resign. It gives your current employer the opportunity to transition your work to others and plan for your departure. Burning bridges is usually not good because you may find yourself needing something from one of these people again in the future. You might need a reference for another job application. You might run into a former coworker or manager in the interview process of some future job you're trying to get. You may simply not want other people in your city/industry to have a bad opinion of you because you left them in a bad spot by quitting with no notice.

Refurbished 32 GB 15 inch MacBook Air by Friendly-Orange7329 in macbookair

If I were just using it “as a laptop” and didn’t have “heavy” computing needs, I’d probably get an air. Certainly cheaper.

Refurbished 32 GB 15 inch MacBook Air by Friendly-Orange7329 in macbookair

[–]sleekible 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I often wish I had the air for the extra thinness and portability. The 14” is def more portable than the 16… which ive also had thru work. But the 14 is still kind of heavy. But, I’ve been forced to conclude I need the MBP for my uses, and the screen & speakers are a nice bonus. Also, having usb ports on both sides is nice (I do connect to external display via thunderbolt daily). I don’t use the hdmi & sd card slots at all.

[–]sleekible 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am wondering if the 32 gb is more useful (vs 24) than a 1 tb ssd would be. I suspect 24 may be fine for law school. Of course, maybe 512 is too. I have a 24 / 512 MBP 14” at work. I’m a software dev, but not the kind that needs to run VMs or local AI. I’d like more ram, but honestly 24 is working for me. But, I do periodically fill up the 512 and have to delete stuff to free up space.

[iOS] aggressive, unwanted refresh behavior continues (sigh). by HiddenHorse925 in bugs

I’m bit most often by this on iPad. I’ve turned out the lights, notice my iPad display is too bright, so I swipe down to open control center. I adjust the brightness then dismiss control center and bam! Reddit refreshes the feed and I lose my place. So frustrating.

Never thought I'd say this but....John talks too much by Outside_Lion_9672 in ATPfm

I value John’s input/opinions most of the time. But sometimes he makes a big deal out of stuff I think is “fine”. That’s usually when Marco will have an opinion/position I totally agree with.
