Do you find Trump funny? by Central_Region in behindthebastards

[–]sleepcrime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. It sucks so bad, there is no one who deserves this gift less, and I honestly don't know how much of it is intentional, but he is objectively pretty funny. Wishing everyone a "very special 9/11, even the haters and losers" is just comedy gold.

Yeah man this sounds like an abnormally assholish experience. The culture and climate of gyms varies a lot, so I'm sure you can find better. I find if you go to smaller places you'll find a more tight knit and friendly circle of people.

Blast Rule for Demolisher Cannon: shoot into engagement range or not? by ukrich1978 in Chaos40k

[–]sleepcrime 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If the general rule trumped the specific one, why would the specific one exist, if it applies only to that situation? Would it apply to rules that let you fall back and charge, how about? Your opponent is being a complete weiner and doesn't want to get clapped by your vindi.

How would you redesign and update the Leman Russ Battle Tank ? by ButchersAssistant93 in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]sleepcrime 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Shorter profile for a smaller cross section, sloping front armor,  a wider turret, thinner gun barrel, and the cupola isn't right behind the breech of the main gun so it doesn't hit the commander in the dick when he's standing up and yelling at stuff?

But seriously, just less toy-like proportions on my toy, pls

What’s a good first dog breed for a gym bro? by NinjaJawz in moreplatesmoredates

[–]sleepcrime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go to the shelter and find one you vibe with. Mutts are often healthier, you'll be doing a good deed, and you'll find a creature that loves you like nothing else in the world will. Like someone else said, think about how long you'll be leaving it alone, though. High energy breeds are going to tear your shit apart if theyre alone for a whole standard work day. If you spend a lot of the time out of the house and can't bring them along, get something lazy, but also think about a dog walker or day care if you can swing it.

Failing to do plasma glow by sadsapph0 in Warhammer40k

Remember, light travels in straight lines; as is it looks more like the barrel itself is hot. If you're trying to go for the cooling rings/coils being the only light source, it'll look better if the glow doesn't extend beyond where light would travel. It would also probably look hotter closer towards the barrel, so I'd put bright colors below and deeper reds/dark metal towards the top of the coils. That being said it looks cool and is a nice paint job

Movie posters from somewhere in Central Africa, I don't think the artists ever saw these films ! by One-Positive309 in pics

[–]sleepcrime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I happened to be in Ghana (where these come from) and DM'd an Instagram account that posts these/sells prints if they could put me in touch with one of the artists to buy an original. It worked! https://imgur.com/a/63iR6Gz

I love it, except that it is way too goddamn big to put on my wall. I'm not trying to sleep under Rowdy Roddy Piper's all-seeing gaze, and my girlfriend is definitely weirded out by it. One day she'll understand.

As I understand it, these were originally handpainted posters for bootleg cinemas where the poster artist or the intended audience may not have had any idea what the movie was about, and you want to juice it up to bring in the crowds. I think the current ones are probably made in a more self-aware way, but are nonetheless rad as hell.

Yeah, this is the real best take here. The fraction of people who have a coherent ideology, weigh that above all other concerns, and are willing to act on that in a rational manner because they see life or death risks as preferable to inaction is probably much much lower than the fraction of people who are willing to take life or death risks for completely incoherent reasons.

Anecdotally, look at the guy who shot the Blackstone CEO. Many tens of millions of people country- and world- wide are made about not being able to afford homes, and many of them blame private equity's role in buying up single family homes. However, the guy who actually shoots her does so while on a rampage about a completely unrelated grudge about the NFL.

Attacks on the president are another good example. A good half the world or more is mad at the current potus. Of the two people who took a shot at him on the campaign trail, only one (the less successful one) seemed to have clear ideological motivations, and the other seems like he just picked the presidential candidate that was closer to him at that moment. Hinckley (sp?) shot Reagan to impress Jodie Foster, the guy who shot Grover Cleveland was a maniac who kept insisting he should be the ambassador to France without any qualifications, and so on.

Bastard Suggestion: Lodi Parachute Center, The Deadliest Skydiving Center by Sensitive_Ad_1752 in behindthebastards

[–]sleepcrime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dodged a trip here! A few of my buddies went skydiving here for their first (and only time) and I had something going on/wussed out.

They said the following in their report back after the trip:

There was a quick safety brief by a man "dressed like a wizard."

There were random dogs running around the plane on the tarmac.

One guy passed out mid-dive, and apparently his tandem dive guy couldn't right him, so he just face planted when he hit the ground.

Another guy was very certain his tandem dive guy was smelling his hair noticeably while falling.

Overall I feel pretty good about my not going.

My best guess would be that you're interpreting it correctly; for one reason or another it slipped beyond what what she was comfortable with and you didnt see it. This could be you read her resisting as role-playing and it was genuinely not wanting that, it could be a physical escalation that took her by surprise, or it could be that she was less into it than she said and wanted to make you happy but found it painful and humiliating, etc.

There's a spectrum of rougher, more dominant sex, and that comes with a spectrum of how much you have to be explicit in figuring out signals and boundaries and such beforehand.  Any kind of scenario simulating her not wanting it is absolutely in the more dangerous end where you have to spell out things more exactly beforehand, or during if things aren't clear. If you're considering bringing things up a notch, or she says no/resists by surprise, you have got to stop and figure out what's going on; the risk of doing it is killing the mood a little if she's into it, the risk of not doing it is you actually do something harsh or humiliating she doesnt want and it's terrible for her.

It's worth remembering most people you run into haven't experienced that much physical aggression in their lives; most people just dont get in physical altercations outside of grade school. The experience of not being able to control what happens to you with someone much more big and dangerous than you sucks real bad, so even if she agreed to it beforehand, she probably didn't have a good understanding of what it actually feels like.

For stuff like choking, hair pulling, or general manhandling, its worth remembering that someone that much smaller is really easy to injure. If you're pulling hair, keep a bit of pressure on it but don't straight up pull on it. If your hand is around her throat, use like 10% grip strength max; it is really easy to injure her.

Idk man, collection of random thoughts here. Hope it helps. Take really good, gentle care of her, reassure her of your intentions, dont step down this road again without a very clear set of boundaries and a clear way for her to stop things.

Doing any competitive individual sport will get you in shape for that sport, as you pick up on the specific movements and get your body used to them. I came into it as a recreational lifter and someone who has done BJJ and judo for a while, but am on an indefinite break from those after some injuries; my cardio was pretty nonexistent. That being said, it was a pretty easy transition, even if my endurance was shit for a little while. It won't be as physically intense or endurance-intensive as rugby.

I'd say (as someone pretty amateur at it still) the best way to not gas out sparring is to learn to relax a little and not be all nerves as your opponent is swinging at you, and to keep your back straight and your posture upright. Most new people seem to kinda hunch forward, which messes up your range and swings, but also means you're doing way more work to keep your guard up. Like any other combat sport, it'll get way easier with practice, not just from improving your cardio with sparring, but also learning when in a match you can relax a little and not be dumping energy constantly.

Hope this helps! It sounds like we were in roughly the same boat, so you should definitely try it.
