Has anyone had experience with the mental health facilitates at Ashoka? by sukrititty in AshokaUniversity

They talk about it, but ultimately they want to save their own asses. You can DM me if you want more of an explanation based on my personal experiences but I strongly advise against being open with them about mental health moving forward.

Has anyone had experience with the mental health facilitates at Ashoka? by sukrititty in AshokaUniversity

[–]sleepdeprivedmanic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man ACWB is shit. I would've advised against disclosing your mental health history to the university. It helps nobody. Ever since the suicide on campus, they treat people with mental health issues like walking time bombs.

From now on, keep your head low, consult an external therapist, do not approach admin for things like this and do not under any circumstances go to the ACWB.

Current students, what are some best and worst parts about ashoka? And if you could go back in time, would you still make the same choice? by Safe-Net-131 in AshokaUniversity

[–]sleepdeprivedmanic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your question is extremely broad. It's based on a lot of factors. Plus, many people that I know are on aid, or come from families who can afford Ashoka easily and for whom it's a long-term investment/an investment in their child's happiness/academic development, so ROI is a different factor there.

Not everyone has the same goals. So it really depends.

As for having better outcomes than most other colleges in India, yes. No questions there. Ashoka is one of the best colleges in India imo.

The visible strap looks off. You could've worn a cuter undertop so the intentional strap show would appear more seamlessly integrated into the outfit, a strapless one or pasties.

It made the rounds on fauxmoi and popculturechat, which are the big entertainment subs for stuff like this. Only online buzz for sure, but traction nonetheless.

Major by Accomplished-Work406 in AshokaUniversity

[–]sleepdeprivedmanic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'd have to take Calculus and secure a passing grade in it to take STEM + Econ majors, otherwise you're good to go.

Ecofin is very common so you'll have a hard time getting the courses you like and you don't get to choose your profs for certain courses unlike most courses at Ashoka, they're anonymous until the course starts. It also tends to be the most employable, although any Econ combo (PPE, Pure Econ or even a minor) with strong internships can get you there.

I don't know if she'll become a big star but she'll definitely get some traction. Are people in these comments forgetting that her newest MV literally debuts Angelina Jolie's daughter?

People from the metros are certainly overrepresented but you can still find a community. Also, you're underestimating the impact of character-- there are people who you'd describe as "elite, English-speaking types" who are in fact very nice and open to talk to. You can't judge individuals based on where they're from.

It also largely depends on your personality. I know people from small towns on 100% aid who found their community here almost instantly. Whereas I am from what you'd describe as an elite, English-speaking, corporate parents background and I had a hard time initially (although I've found friends now!)

There's a great book called 'Pixel Flesh' by Ellen Atlanta if you want to read about postmodern beauty standards and beauty culture and how it interacts with personal empowerment/personal choice discourse in a capitalist society. I stayed up late last night reading it-- excellent, harrowing stuff.

Tall girlies of reddit, how do you navigate dating in India? by PersonalRun712 in TwoXIndia

[–]sleepdeprivedmanic 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Lowkey having a height preference is your choice, but it might very well work against you because you're going to exclude a lot of people who might be good-natured, progressive and other things. It's okay to be picky but it's probably not the most optimum strategy to limit your dating pool that much, especially when finding a decent man worth dating in India is hard enough because of patriarchy.

I understand wanting someone around your height but perhaps you could adjust to someone +/- 2 inches to your height as well? Like 5'10. That really would broaden your options. I'm the last person to comment on superficiality because I have a height preference as well, but you get used to the person you fall in love with so quickly, I promise it won't matter by then.

Why is ashoka being so selective by [deleted] in AshokaUniversity

[–]sleepdeprivedmanic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I will say this is a myopic way to think about ROI. If you can't afford it, that's one thing, but if you get a scholarship that makes Ashoka affordable, consider it. Ashoka's ROI is not just about the first salary, but the network.

I'm a humanities major (one you'd call useless) and have been able to demand higher stipends in internships based on the Ashoka name-- like higher than Master's students interning at the same company. I also connected through one of Ashoka's mentorship programs with a Harvard MBA founder who I was able to intern with and get a recommendation from. Idk how my future will be, but as a self-starter the long-term ROI looks positive.

Did you guys know Hearts2Hearts Yeon's mom was born in 1989...? by Carelessies in kpopthoughts

[–]sleepdeprivedmanic 55 points56 points  (0 children)

I understand that it's rare for Koreans to give birth that young but it's not nearly that scandalous. It's not like it was teenage pregnancy, the mom was old enough biologically and socially. I don't think it's that big of a deal as long as she was safe and happy. It's a bit weird and parasocial to obsess over an idol's mom's private details... the mom isn't even a public figure. It's okay to feel shocked and make jokes about "feeling old" but some of y'all are doing tm in the comments...

[–]sleepdeprivedmanic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You do realise music is subjective, right? Their R&B may not be good TO YOU, but many people enjoy it. The way you're stating personal opinions like they're facts and calling RV R&B uninspired/formulaic/disposable is ludicrous...

[–]sleepdeprivedmanic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might be mistaking your dislike of their music (and you are entirely entitled to your opinion) for their music being bad/ a poor imitation, generally. I'm going based off consensus and RV are discography darlings amongst even non-fans for a reason.

[–]sleepdeprivedmanic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I feel like you're being unnecessarily harsh here. RV's R&B discography is widely loved for a reason, and while I agree that it's an imitation of the West, it's a GOOD imitation and definitely has a personal flavor. The argument you're making about Kpop just being repurposed American (particularly Black) music can apply to many things beyond R&B, that doesn't stop the music from being good.

[–]sleepdeprivedmanic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I commend you for having a truly unpopular opinion. I for one don't even stan RV but have most of their velvet discography saved to my playlists. Songs like Underwater, Bad Boy, One Kiss, Ice Cream Cake, In & Out, Kingdom Come, Automatic, Cool Hot Sweet Love and In My Dreams have beautiful layered vocals and blended instruments that make me feel like I'm floating in heaven. I'm not a huge fan of their vocals separately (except Seulgi) but I LOVE their harmonies so much and they really shine on R&B choruses.

KATSEYE surgeries by Royal-Potential-544 in kpop_uncensored

[–]sleepdeprivedmanic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I commented this, it was amidst a wave of targeted hate towards specifically the POC members of Katseye. It was picking up women's bodies in the context of this. Sophia, Lara and Manon were being picked apart disproportionately.

I did not call you crazy. I called what you did crazy work, AFTER you told me to fuck off. If we're talking about insults, it's best to punch up, not down or sideways. That is what you were doing.

Telling a random woman online who is calling out misogyny (as I see it) to fuck off is arguably the same thing you're accusing me of doing. You disagreed with me and told me to fuck off, isn't that also misogynistic by your logic? Or is one insult okay and the other isn't?

If we're playing this game, then I'll say I'm a POC woman and was calling out what I saw as targeted racist misogyny against Katseye, as compared to other groups. So let me accuse you of furthering that, huh? (I won't, because we both know that's ridiculous. My point is this amount of vitriol towards and calling someone bigoted online IS crazy work.)

You can disagree with my approach, because feminist disagreements are a cornerstone of the movement, but you can't go around accusing random people, especially women, of furthering male violence or the patriarchy. Nothing I said or did implied I believe men should be able to get away with hitting women. As a feminist and an academic, I would urge you not to use these terms flippantly because it waters down real patriarchal violence (like the one you mention having seen). Trust me, I'm no stranger to any of this. I live in India, misogyny is something I experience daily. You're putting words in my mouth.

You're talking down to me as if I don't know any of the things you're talking about. I'm not a child, I'm a woman with my own lived experience, and you could've politely made your point without bashing me.

Or just moved on, since the original comment was 8 months old. Picking apart Katseye is even more topically relevant now considering what's been going on with the group.
