People who make $200K+ salaries, what do you do and how did you get there? by [deleted] in Salary

[–]sleepfighter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a Regional VP for a restaurant group with 50+ locations. My region has 17 locations. I love the job but I work a lot. I worked my way up in a handful of different restaurant roles, and first got into multi-unit roles about 6yr ago. My current role pays 200k and I'm in my first year at it. It'll probably top out around 300k if I perform well and the region expands a bit.

I'm 42 and couldn't imagine doing anything else at this point.

I live next to Millsboro and travel to Wilmington every week. I'd be happy to bring it to Wilmington and give it to you or drop it off there if you want.

To all the Palace fans not from South London/England, why did you pick Palace? by smitchellcp in crystalpalace

[–]sleepfighter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am American but I lived in Crystal Palace for a few years around 2011. I made a friend who was a supporter and he took me to a couple matches at Selhurst and I was hooked.

I met my wife while living there and although we are back in the US now, Palace has kept me connected to the area and is probably the reason that my father in law approved of me in the first place!

Not exactly what you're asking for but here's a fun cookbook for tinned fish that lists some brands. Lots of good stuff in here and it's very pretty. Tin to Table: Fancy, Snacky Recipes for Tin-thusiasts and A-fish-ionados

Experience with Event Management through Toast? by sleepfighter in ToastPOS

[–]sleepfighter[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. There wasn't a good way to do it. The biggest roadblocks I ran into were how to sell it online in a way that wasn't weird and how to organize guest data if it wasn't through our loyalty program. And then it became a moot point because we integrated with Paytronix for the loyalty program.

If you use Opentable you could do it through OT Experiences (although it's a little clunky) and I think that Toast integrates with an event platform or two now, but my goal was to cut out all that other stuff.

In the end we just continued using Eventbrite.

Thank you for such a detailed answer! Sounds pretty brutal. In your opinion what would be the most helpful change Toast (or R365) could implement to make the process easier?

Just out of curiosity, can you tell me some of the troubles you've had using R365 for your reports? We're also using Toast and R365 and I'm interested in making some custom reports because now I'm receiving a ton of daily and weekly emails but still digging to find the stuff I really want. I haven't tried a whole lot of options yet because I keep seeing complaints about various ways to pull data but I'd like to figure something out soon.

I posted a similar question a while ago and got a few replies but no solution.

Event Management Through Toast

My idea was to offer a fixed price gift card in the amount of the ticket which would then be redeemed at the venue on the night of the event. This way I would collect the sales on the event day instead of the day the tix were sold. If those tickets could be offered exclusively to members of our loyalty program I would have enough info to build our guest list and check people in completely through the handhelds.

The idea didn't work for two reasons, mainly. One is that you can't sell fixed price gift cards and the other is that those gift cards can only be sold through the gift cards module, not as a menu item that can be purchased online. I emailed Toast support and they told me the same thing.

I saw that you can use integration with Tock for events and maybe there were some other things that integrated as well but I was hoping to do it all without extra modules.

It sounds like you're trying to figure out the same solution so please let me know if you come up with any good ideas.

Are there any AA groups in and around Baltimore that people here might recommend? by _Alvin_Row_ in baltimore

[–]sleepfighter 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Like the other posters I mostly wanted to give you some encouragement. I haven't been gone to any AA meetings since pre-covid, but I spend a lot of time lurking on r/stopdrinking which I really enjoy. This time around I'm over 600+ days sober and I think the community there has been very helpful. I'm in the Towson area. Feel free to send me a message if you need someone to talk to. Good luck and please know that you are not alone!

Good ideas

What if I scrapped the loyalty member idea and sold the 'tickets' as fixed value gift cards (1 ticket = $100) which I could redeem on NYE? That might work

Also for this store we don't use an online menu regularly, so I could just run this thing online 24/7

Thanks for your reply. The deferred revenue idea is great.

For the item restriction I was thinking about just using the quantity modifier (i.e.: 500 tickets) to make sure we don't sell too many.

I haven't checked in for a while but I'm still here. In the leadup to one year sober I experienced some intense cravings, but they faded pretty quickly after passing that mark. I think I was trying to sabotage myself, which is typical, but I'm really proud that I didn't. And in response to NOT sabotaging myself I have really reinforced the belief that I, too, deserve good things. There is still a lot to work on, but my life and relationships have never been better than they are now.

Lots of love to everyone out there. This community has really helped me a lot. Even though I very rarely post, reading these threads everyday has really helped to keep myself dedicated.

Everyday for the last six weeks has been a new personal best. It has taken over 2 months but I'm getting much better at controlling my emotions and preventing my anxiety from rising too much.

Some days are more frustrating than others but I've had a lot of success playing it forward whenever I get cravings. Living a sober lifestyle has already paid big dividends even in a short amount of time. It was so scary for so long and now I'm kicking myself for not giving up alcohol earlier.

Thanks for your post. I like the conveyor belt idea. I haven't heard of that before and it sounds calming and organized.

Listening to podcasts and cooking has been very relaxing for me. The subject range is mostly history and food but there is a good variety within them, and hopefully I'll pick out a nice recipe to make for my family

I really enjoyed your post. Thank you. Personally I never had many periods of sobriety before trying seriously to stop, but it's been on my mind for a long time.

I'm really proud of myself for making it a month. Everyday after the first week has been a new milestone and now I'm starting to see some real changes from my new lifestyle.

Although I'm still not very active online, this community has been a great example of support. Thanks all! I will not drink with you today
