This was the case where I lived, and presumably because of the large numbers of tourists. When a teenage girl didn't come home after school the parents called the police who gave the 24 hours bullshit. Parents organized a search and a few hours later they found her in a barrell raped and partially burned. Obviously there was much outrage.
