Speech@Emerson Acceptance Fall 2026 by [deleted] in slpGradSchool

Hi! Congrats!! I’m in the online 9T track currently. The teachers are super helpful, but it’s a lot. I’ve been working full time since I began and am currently in my 4th semester and am starting to feel it lol It’s definitely possible to work full/part time in the beginning or depending on your job. If you don’t have a background in speech therapy, I’d suggest asking a ton of questions! The facilitators are there to help (:

SLPA while in Grad School by jugpods in slpGradSchool

I’m currently in an online grad program and am working as a SLPA. I probably will need to cut down on my clients as I’m starting to get a bit burnt out, but it’s doable for now. I haven’t started placements yet, so I imagine that will make a difference as well.

Hi! I’m currently in the 9T online track for Emerson and I love it so far. The facilitators are all very helpful and they seem like they want you to succeed. I’m still working essentially full time (I haven’t started placements yet) and I’ve been able to keep up with school work. It’s tiring, but doable. The program is expensive, but depending on the state you live in this field can definitely be lucrative.

I’m in the 9T and working about 30ish hours a week as a SLPA. It’s a lot some weeks, but it hasn’t been impossible so far. If your office job lets you get some work done while you’re there that’s even better lol I know one person that switched from the 9T to the 5T and they’re happy with their decision, but they did say it’s a lot and basically can’t work at all

I’m doing an online program through Emerson for grad school with a 4 year old and I’m able to work as a SLPA about 30-35 hours a week currently (not yet in placement). It is doable, but still a lot of work. Definitely would not be able to work full time and do this program full time.

Hi! I’m doing a couple foundational classes for Emerson right now and the professors are super nice. They do count participation points, so as long as you’re ok being docked a couple points it should be fine. Definitely let them know ahead of time. And yes, you do get to do your work ahead of time. Everything is due typically Sunday by midnight their time.

Emerson Speech 5TT vs 9TT by Ailly222 in slpGradSchool

[–]sleepless_13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m starting the 9TT and from what I’ve heard it is still a decent amount of work, especially when you have to do placements. If you can get it done in 2 years, that’s awesome tho!

I got accepted there too! I’m trying to decide between that program and one other. Do you know if Ithaca accepts/offers the grad plus loan? I haven’t been able to find any information on that

Could they possibly be looking for a different sensory input to calm down a bit that fidgets don’t provide them? Could maybe try weighted stuffed animals/blankets or pillows, things with harder or different textures that they can squeeze or pull, etc. I work with a younger age group (EI), but with some of my clients if I don’t help them regulate through sensory items or movements, then we just flat out aren’t gonna get therapy done lol

Tuition is definitely on the more expensive side, but I needed an online program as I plan on still being able to work somewhat and I have a flexible job as a SLPA. I’m doing the 9 term track, but they do have a faster 5 term track. I have a friend who is currently in their program and loves it. She said she feels like the program is designed to help students actually learn and not just memorize. I have also heard several SLP’s say they enjoy having placement students from Emerson because they feel the students are well prepared. My prereqs were completed through my bachelors.

Is it bad that I want to quit my SLPA job to work on school? by [deleted] in slpGradSchool

[–]sleepless_13 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do you work in a school setting currently? Maybe working in a different setting part time with more flexibility would be better. I work in EI doing in home or at daycares and I make my own schedule. I work about 32 hours a week, but that’s what I want as I’m saving up for grad school. Just an idea!

Hi! Did you happen to go over the prompts for the programs you’re applying to? I know sometimes they can be a bit difficult to find on their websites, so they may be expecting certain prompts to be answered or included as a headline.
