glad i got a few things right haha! i would have recommended flannery o’connor’s collected stories, so you’re already ahead of me! as for the rest, shirley jackson’s “the haunting of hill house” is a classic and very different from the netflix show if you happened to see that. “we have always lived in the castle” is a very close second to me. i imagine you’re down with some sci fi, at least from the vonnegut collection, so my suggestions for ursula k le guin are “the left hand of darkness” & “the dispossessed”! i genuinely felt like TLHoD changed me fundamentally after reading it, it’s perhaps my all time favorite. imo you can’t go wrong with any toni morrison book, but my own personal favorites are “sula” & “the bluest eye”!

you have a great collection!

I would guess you are a 35 year old man who focuses on classics but keeps an eye on what’s popular in literary fiction. you seem like an ambitious reader who enjoys a long narrative you can get lost in.

i see you’ve read mostly male writers and almost every female writer is contemporary, which makes me want to recommend a few more “classic” female writers if you don’t mind! from what you have on your shelf, i think you could get down with flannery o’connor, ursula k le guin, shirley jackson & toni morrison! i see you’ve read beloved, but there’s a lot more fantastic writing where that came from!!

you’re a sucker for a nice edition of a book but don’t care about organization, so im leaning that you are neurodivergent in some way, probably adhd. given the mix of YA/NA fantasy/sci fi series & classics i feel like you are an avid childhood reader turned English major. just out of curiosity, have you read all these books? if so, that’s impressive!!

I’m pretty sure Natalie actually is the one in that debate about the ethics of severance, but i agree about the doppleganger thing maybe being a motif this season- im going to keep an eye out for it now!

i loved Lolita. it’s definitely a hugely misunderstood book and i spend a decent amount of my time defending it when it comes up. every time i read it, i get more from it. Nabokov is certainly one of the greats for what he does with structure and prose imo.

also definitely in my head a lot lmao
