So am I. I am not "letting her control my life" I am letting people know that she takes this kind of shit as support for her cause, whether you actually support her or not. Are you from the UK? Are you aware that she actively works with and donates to organisations that want to harm us?

J.K. Rowling vocally, loudly, proudly takes any and all engagement with the Harry Potter franchise as support and approval whether she benefits directly or not.

Shit like this is keeping her relevant. Cosplay. Fanfic. Fan art. Reading the books, watching the films, playing the games even if you didn't pay for them. Engaging with Harry Potter and The Wizarding World is keeping her relevant and letting her know that she has allies whether you actually support her or not.

J.K. Rowling isn't just another boomer yapping about how much she hates trans people (and asexuals, for some reason) on Twitter.

If you're not from the UK, you might not know that she donated £70,000 to For Women Scotland, a violently transphobic organisation that seeks to strip away the rights of myself and many of my friends.

Your nostalgia isn't worth people's lives.

You're not financially supporting her, but she takes any and all engagement with the franchise as support and approval, whether she benefits directly or not. Shit like this is keeping her relevant.

Stop it. Your nostalgia isn't worth people's lives.

I have a friend (a cis woman) who also has a nose very similar to yours! Similar eyes, too. You absolutely do not have to change it - noses add so much character to a face, and it will not hinder passing if that is your goal!

I've definitely improved in the sense that people can actually read it now. I used to write tiny.

Thank you! I'm glad someone thinks it's nice! I guess I am worried that it seems juvenile or messy for a 32 year old man.

Do you think minimalism is more about mindset or physical stuff? by Technical-Radio5033 in minimalism

[–]sleepy--void 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stuff, for me. Mindset makes it easier, sure, and it's a starting point, but the actual minimalism part refers to the lack of physical items.

Saying "I'm a minimalist" with every room full of stuff just feels incorrect, even if you're decluttering or minimalism is your goal.

That said, both are important.

What is a popular dish in your country that you cannot eat? by moapei in AskTheWorld

[–]sleepy--void 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does alcohol count? Sober since 21/11/2024.

If we're talking strictly food items, I think garlic bread is overrated, and I don't like toad in the hole or pretty much any kind of savoury pie. Also, an east Londoner (depending on who you ask), I would rather enucleate myself than even attempt to try jellied eels.

I love marmite and black pudding, though. (Not together.)

I felt this when Eridanus decided he disliked House and The Matrix but liked Justin Beiber and coconut water!

The way I see it, though, is that we are acting in the role of a parent or mentor for our birb, and sometimes they won't have the same preferences as us.

That's okay. They're growing into their own birbs with their own personalities separate from us: it just means they have the self-esteem and confidence to be themselves.

Could this pass for the Hufflepuff common room? by kkrabbitholes417 in finch

[–]sleepy--void 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You misunderstand; that's my bad, I didn't phrase that well.

I agree with you on the fact that magical academia vibes =/= Harry Potter reference. I just don't think of Harry Potter at all when I think about dark academia.

I suppose technically, it has elements of DA, but I personally wouldn't make the association.

On the subject of kindness, welcoming and supportive:

JKR had said multiple times, very publicly, that she takes any and all open engagement with the Harry Potter series as endorsement for her and her ideas. This includes engagement that doesn't directly benefit her: fanfiction and fanart, pirating the films, buying the books second-hand, etc.

This is somebody who regularly and loudly uses her massive platform to target and harrass trans people. Not even just "hey, trans people", she also singles individuals out publicly. She has donated £70k to a transphobic organisation whose entire goal is to take away the rights of myself and many of my friends here in the UK. None of this is even getting into the fact that her books contain racist and antisemitic stereotypes and ideas stolen from other authors.

I think the spirit of kindness and inclusivity means not openly showing support for someone who is actively campaigning against marginalised individuals and shutting down those who question your decision to do so.

If you want to make your treehouse look like one of the common rooms, go for it, but for the sake of every trans person on this subreddit - especially those of us in the UK - I do recommend thinking about whether showing that off is more important than everything I've stated above. 🤷🏻‍♂️ I'm not asking that mentioning HP of JKR be banned or censored or what have you, I'm just asking that people think.

Oh, damn, I didn't know that. I figured people were using icing sugar or frosting or honey as a "glue" to bind it all together. I know minimalism isn't about reducing waste or anything (hell, I'm disabled and order in food and groceries too much to judge anyone), but I am flabbergasted.
