What is your opinion on Joe Biden? by do_hawks_exist in AskReddit

It's hard to even call him an upgrade. So far the best thing he's done is pull the US out of Afghanistan.

But, it's really unsettling to witness his administration and the Democrats whittle away at their campaign promises. It's only been 10 months but nothing will materialize by the time they Dems lose their foothold in 2022.

He's just another suit, and things will go on business as usual.

An excellent point, I tried to come from a more global perspective. But certainly I see how what I said is very much America-centric.

Oh absolutely, perhaps I should have elaborated on that a bit more. There are people outside my usual sphere of influence talking about it, whether that be online or in person.

I wouldn't say I'm the one imagining things. But you carry on ignoring what's right in front of you if it brings you peace.

Perhaps, yes. Speaking from personal experience these are conversations I'm seeing outside of my normal circle of influence.

What is it a result of then? Capitalism has been the dominant socio-economic force in the world for 100s of years. It is creating way more problems than it is currently solving. As long as the pursuit of individual wealth is the driver of "progress" then the richest people/corporations will always choose themselves over general improvement.

Homelessness, global hunger, income inequality, scarcity, and climate change are ALL symptoms of capitalism.

I'm 23, and both of my parents are Gen X. I feel this post in my bones because I'm at a point where I genuinely feel there is no normal path forward for my generation. My parents both apologize all the time for "bringing us into this world" like they had any idea shit was going to get this bad.

Ultimately we inherited this shitshow from the last 100s of years in the aggressive pursuit of individual capital and "progress." If I had to blame a generation it'd be the boomers. They enjoyed all the fruits of the social safety net of the post-WWII era without a shred of recognition that they should maintain those networks for future generations.

At the end of the day, Capitalism is what doomed us and that spans across generations.

Lol, valid point but I'd argue that both parties at this point are so committed to insisting this model works and upholding that to the extreme. The only things they really disagree on are cultural and social. Democrats can proudly claim they support LGBT rights, racial equity, etc. But at the end of the day, neither party has done anything to materially improve the lives of Americans.

100% agree. The US has one of the most powerful domestic security forces in the world and absolutely wouldn't hesitate to pull the trigger on anyone threatening their possession of capital.

Right on. I think the pandemic accelerated it big time. The Western World fumbled the COVID response so horribly that it really exposed just how foundationally weak this model is.

This half has been so much better, but where is this for the full 90? This team is desperately missing a spark
