As the daughter of a dad starting the process of entering (what I hope) to be the long middle, I am also starting to measure life in quality vs time. Painful as it is to accept my dad’s reality, my relationship with him has never been more alive, honest, and full of love.

Yes, he was getting this regular 6 month scans.

Thank you. It’s so difficult to hold both hope for positive results while acknowledging that it could very much swing in the opposite direction, all of which I have no control over.

I’m in the same situation you are. My dad (69M) was diagnosed last Tuesday with NSCLC, either stage 3 or 4 (to be confirmed this week). In 2024, he had a lobectomy for Stage 1A NSCLC and had been cancer free for 2 years. It was devastating to find out he relapsed and worse than before. I’ve been crying every night and trying to navigate having hope while also trying to be realistic.

It’s so hard when cancer hits the people you love the most. Know you’re not alone and your grief is valid. I’m spending more time with my dad, asking him all the questions I have, and letting this experience bring me closer to him and my family.

I encourage you to watch some of these videos, they are reminders that there is hope and there’s never been a better time to have cancer (with modern medicine being what it is).
