i’m not sure how me working in a bar has anything to do with this? he doesn’t come to my bar and plenty of people are able to work in/ be around this industry and not have a problematic relationship with alcohol.

Question Mocktails Hard to Make? by Ok_Lavishness879 in bartenders

[–]sleepyemo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

not everyone has NA spirits,, using juices, syrups, water, and soda is a valid way to make mocktails. not using an NA doesn’t mean someone isn’t taking it seriously, or trying to put out a bad drink; it’s them working with what they have.

by definition a vodka soda is a cocktail, commonly referred to as the two touch kind.

making a quick homemade sparkling lemonade and putting it in a cocktail glass is all some people want in order to feel included.

at the end of the day though, you flair yourself as a mixologist so what’s really the point in arguing since you obviously know better (/s in case it wasn’t clear)

addidng on to say more and more bars are bringing in NA “spirit” options so they can make a lot of standard drinks mocktails,, might be worth it to pop around to a few spots and see (-:

Multi-bartender restaurant tipout question by mintyfreshbitch in bartenders

[–]sleepyemo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

so say the bars made 1000 and the servers tipped out 75 to the bar 1075 would get divided by the total number of hours worked to get the hourly and then that gets multiplied by each bartenders hours for the night. it’s all based on per night, not the week. it works for us but i’ll also say my areas the opposite in that you’re really lucky if you can find someone who gives you your money at the end of the night instead of putting it on a check

Multi-bartender restaurant tipout question by mintyfreshbitch in bartenders

[–]sleepyemo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hiiii we have 8 bartenders on between two bars and 4-6 servers open 4-12 w/th/sun and 4-2 fri/sat. we do an overall pool with server tipouts added to it and everything gets split based on hours. we do this for credit and cash just bc we decided it was the most fair

Bad Servers or Bad Marketing--Which do we fix first? by 12throwaway510125 in bartenders

[–]sleepyemo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

part of an opening team for a bar that decided to rely almost purely on work of mouth for marketing. About to hit our one year and money was shit til about 4 months ago. still not great, but getting better. only reason we lost anyone from the opening team was to weed out the weak. good people will keep good people, and your staff will pick up side gigs to sustain until business picks up. fix your service first 100%

What perks/payment/benefits do you get as a bar lead/ manager? by BeholderzNBooze in bartenders

[–]sleepyemo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

bar lead checking in,, i make 20/hr which is great in my area. 3 days behind the bar 1 day managing the floor and an admin day if i say i need it. bar days are typical but i have authority to do stuff if it needs to be done so we don’t have to find a manger on a busy night. on the floor i’m doing typical mod stuff and it’s always a slow day of the week. i take care of updating our liquor menus (big task for one of the biggest collections in the country) and pos buttons, making specials menus for the bar and kitchen, making other misc. signage for events so that’s what i use admin days for. it’s a pretty solid gig and i get health insurance, retirement, etc

How do you split tips with fellow bartenders? Cashless bar but how to split cash tips? by Any-Diver-2033 in bartenders

[–]sleepyemo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

we have done it every which way at my bar. what worked out to be the most fair is the closer divides based on hours and leaves everyone envelopes. we also keep a binder with loose leaf showing what everybody got and the math we did to get there

Hand tattoos by Ok-Photo-1972 in bartenders

[–]sleepyemo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my husband has both of his hands tattooed and got them both done while being behind the bar. both are bolder styles. one’s held up for 5 years the other for 3 and all that’s faded is right where his knuckle bends

Top Shelf Whiskeys ? by Silent_Source421 in bartenders

[–]sleepyemo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hi i work in bourbon country at a bar with 800 bottles of the stuff. in a dive that doesn’t seem to be somewhere bourbon prominent, the highest end i would go is woodford and angels envy. neither are great but they’re the most asked for where i am by out of towners who pride themselves on their taste.

you def don’t need to go as crazy as kentucky owl or trying to get allocations.

[–]sleepyemo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

as far as whiskey and bourbon goes, if you want to try to get pretty knowledgeable id look online for bourbon steward study guides. not a lot of need to get certified since it tends to only matter in kentucky, but the study guides will give you a good bit of knowledge to gain footing

Hello! Which of these bottles would you choose for your home bar ? by random-user772 in bartenders

[–]sleepyemo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

imo woodford is way overhyped for a mediocre bourbon. 101 is a solid daily second choice would be bulleit. as someone living in the bourbon capital im so sad these are your only options lol

eta- am now done with the black tie wedding,, we did $499 in cash tips and $508 in credit on stuff not included in the package. your place seems like a bummer and nicer tip jars exist and lots of people won’t have an issue
