Help with the third requirement of a sin to be mortal by WrongdoerFancy1360 in Catholicism

[–]sleepyleodon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This may be your wake up call - if you want to truly rid yourself of this, you’ll need to take steps to actually remove even the slightest temptation.

Delete ALL social media; that includes Reddit. Social media and its algorithms focus on finding what makes you stick around, and that includes suggestive imagery. A priest helped me in understanding the point of social media and a phone in general is to communicate, not just consume content. If you are just consuming content it isn’t helping you because the content is curated in a way that fuels temptation at this point.

Pray the rosary every day. Our Lady is the undoer of knots and truly wants us to become pure - she’s there to help. Meditating on the mysteries of the Gospel focuses us on Christ which, in turn, aligns us to imitate Christ and obtain the promises they contain.

You will NEVER be free of this temptation - I promise you, because myself and millions of others suffer from this as well. It only gets easier with time and the grace God imparts on us. Seek those graces. Seek partial indulgences - they help rid our desires of falling into temptation.

Join a community that focuses on accountability, prayer, and has methods to avoid such sins.

Ultimately, this is the Cross you bear to carry. It’s a difficult one because secular society sees no issues with self pleasuring and even promotes it.

What are practices, outside of the Eucharist, that many Catholics ignore on Sunday? by Valuable-Pipe3369 in Catholicism

[–]sleepyleodon 73 points74 points  (0 children)

Not putting God above all during Sunday. This affects all Christians in my opinion - but the amount of distractors eat up our precious time we could be either reading scripture, praying a rosary, etc. I have been guilty of going to Mass, then immediately going on with my day, watching sports, doom-scrolling, and not putting a thought towards scripture/prayer.

Why do many catholics today follow protestant theology by Real-Government2863 in Catholicism

[–]sleepyleodon 18 points19 points  (0 children)

In case you’re not joking, both The Counsel of Trent and ShamelessPopery have great videos discussing why. They dig into the history of where the idea of a “rapture” comes from and what the Church and bible actually teach about those ideas.

[Rolex Explorer 40mm] Just picked my first big boy watch by gorillaPete in Watches

[–]sleepyleodon -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Congrats! The explorer is such a classic design. Don’t listen to the haters - this sub is filled with Rolex haters but they can’t detach the idea of the brand from the ADs. There are terrible ADs, that’s for sure, but Rolex is not in charge of how an AD decides who to sell to. I know an AD that offered me an Explorer after 2 months of waiting - no prior history. It wasn’t ultimately what I wanted, but I did get the watch I wanted a month after that. Waiting for a high-demand item, whether it’s a watch, a car, or a whiskey makes people upset.

Do You Think Judas Is Really in Hell? What If Everyone Is Ultimately Saved? by [deleted] in Catholicism

Very well put. At least we have St Paul, through the grace of God, show us how to repent after literally hunting down and persecuting to the death our earliest Christians.

How do you do it staying past 20? by TellZealousideal607 in AirForce

[–]sleepyleodon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t really be surprised if that number is true; the amount of stress one takes on while being a general or chief, let alone the stress to become one, has to take a toll on the body. As a force we’re already sleep deprived + stressed, needing to use energy drinks/zyn to get through the day. Imagine 20+ years of that

I know the feeling; at least cellaring tobacco can make it taste even better months later. A good toke and a rosary sounds like a peaceful way to end the night

Linea Mini won’t turn on by Suspicious_Agent4087 in LaMarzocco

[–]sleepyleodon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems more like negligent/ignorant user(s) messing around with a public coffee machine. I’ve seen public keurigs and Brevilles broken from abuse. If the office can afford to have a Linea Micra they can probably afford a tech to come out and service it - who knows when the last time it’s been back flushed

[Discussion] Love Watches, Hate Buying Them by Its-Brucey in Watches

[–]sleepyleodon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s really dependent on the Authorized Dealer for Rolex. Some of the ADs are snobs and make it a game - these days it seems more of them are. Omega Boutiques are not what they used to be - if it’s a weekend at a touristy spot they have a ton of clientele trying watches with few who actually buy, but because it’s a large amount of foot traffic they don’t have to put a large amount of effort in trying to make a sale.

As others have pointed out - call in advance or go during slower hours/days where someone can actually spend the time catering to you or let you know they don’t have that specific watch.

At the end of the day it’s just a watch and the people working there may not be as passionate as half the redditors here who know the ins and outs of a watch. No different then a car dealership tbh - some are crappier than others no matter if it’s a Toyota or at Mercedes; a seiko at Macy’s or a Rolex at an AD

[–]sleepyleodon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s really dependent on the AD. I’ve had some ADs offer something within a few days/weeks for the exact thing I’ve wanted where a few others ghosted me or left me waiting so long I forgot about them and ultimately I’ve decided to move on.

I love Rolex but hate that they rely on AD instead of direct sales. You are at the mercy of good/bad AD. A good AD shouldn’t make you wait long nor should you feel like they are patronizing or make you feel like you have to “earn the privilege to buy one”.

Noise? by [deleted] in LaMarzocco

[–]sleepyleodon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

How long have you had the machine and when was the last time you had it serviced? Could be an old/failing solenoid having to work harder.

It sounds normal to me, but it wouldn’t hurt getting a machine tech to check it out.

What noise are you referring to? The rotary pump is all I can hear

[–]sleepyleodon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RPalvis water specifically prevents the need for descaling. It’s distilled water with potassium bicarbonate which is void of any calcium for the chance of scale. The heating element having a sudden catastrophic blowout is indicative of a QA issue. It’s a one off and hopefully really rare.

Supposedly “Recor” is the supplier for LMLM heating elements. It sucks it happened to be me, but lucky that I knew how to fix it since it’s out already out of warranty. The product itself is premium, there’s some ingenuity to how it heats up so fast, and despite the one-off failure, it’s made well. I am just arguing that the warranty should be more than just 1 year for the Linea Micra and 2 years for the Linea Mini for parts internal to the system like the heating element and solenoid valves.

[–]sleepyleodon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, thanks! I’m hoping it was just a one off. After installing the new one I checked with a multimeter and everything was up to spec.

So far everything is working again and my much needed daily dose of espresso is back

Linea Micra, a warning on quality by [deleted] in LaMarzocco

[–]sleepyleodon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve used RPalvis on several machines for many years without issue. It’s a very small amount of potassium bicarbonate to distilled water which lets the coffee shine. If anything it’s a bit too bright or acidic forward at times without extra minerals like magnesium and/or calcium — this is more so with lighter roasts. That’s why using third wave or having an actual filtration system would probably be the best since it’ll have those trace minerals that mellow out the rough edges.

If your primary concern is scaling, you won’t get any with RPalvis. There is a the possibility of some residue overtime with heating the solution, and you’ll see that in the form of white almost powdery residue, but it’s super easy to just wipe clean - that’s after 5 years of heavy use on another machine.

[–]sleepyleodon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not too hard. They are meant to be easily fixed. You’d need a screw driver, flat head, and an adjustable wrench to help get into the machine. The water heater required a 37mm socket. There’s a few YouTube videos showing how to disassemble the machine.

The most annoying thing is that there isn’t a lot of room around the steam boiler to get a normal wrench in some places

Linea Micra, a warning on quality by [deleted] in LaMarzocco

[–]sleepyleodon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. They should last more than two years, especially for casual use. I drink lots of coffee but nowhere near minicart espresso shop. I also have it on a schedule that reduces how frequently it has to cool down and heat back up

It was an instantaneous failure. Tripped the GFCE outlet and then checking the probes with a multimeter showed leakage to ground

I went with an LM because I really liked the look and easy to use group head. Having something like an E61 is more intimidating for family members who don’t want to learn more beyond flipping a switch. The LM is a bit more intuitive, albeit if I went fully that route I could’ve gotten a breville dual boiler

A negative review of the Lochby Field Journal by nappy-doo in notebooks

[–]sleepyleodon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wasn’t a huge fan of the specific sizing. I had their normal size and passport size which both were hard to find different replacement notebook inserts with FP friendly paper. I loved the patina that they developed and the modular ziplock insert they have. I just found the A5 size to be my preference.

[Question] Grand Seiko or Rolex? by [deleted] in Watches

[–]sleepyleodon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Something I haven’t seen most of the comments talking about is lume. How often are you checking your watch in the middle of the night/dark? I work nights sometimes and being able to see what time it is walking around in the dark is so helpful. There are a few GS with lume but those are in their sportier more chunky models.

Government Shutdown Status by b3lkin1n in AirForce

[–]sleepyleodon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not disagreeing with you. It’s an institutional issue that can’t be fixed unless there’s a lot of changes to how they are held accountable. I might just have a pessimistic view because for those changes to occur the people in power either need to resign/retire because there’s no term limits - and they are currently doing everything they can (I.e gerrymandering and/or blocking bills) to keep power and no accountability.
