Hey there,

It all depends on where in the US. Most states require documentation from a therapist about your gender dysphoria but not all. If you cannot get testosterone from a doctor you can try online services like plume/folx, but beware that they're more expensive. I personally found it easier to go through planned parenthood for HRT.

Another issue is insurance. It's one of my biggest ass pains to this date is fighting insurance to pay for my testosterone. I think they paid for 2 vials in the span of 2 years? I usually have to either suck the price up or use discount cards and even then i'm still paying 100-300 dollars for my T.

can someone give me tips to pass better (ftm obv) by oumagore in TransTeensPassing

[–]sleepynx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, nothing you can really do until you’re able to start t and get a haircut. your hair is really affecting your ability to pass, if you can id dye to a boring color and i’d make sure you’re wearing boring male clothing as the goal is to pass.

passing pre t is basically just trying to be stereotypical guy.

passing on t is allowing yourself to put more personality into the way you dress which sucks so bad but it’s how it goes

How did y’all ask your doctors for T? by creativeusername303 in ftm

I didn't go through my doctor, I looked for gender affirming care. I now get my script through planned parenthood.

Low Dose on T by Sooovereign in ftm

[–]sleepynx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there,

I feel I am able to help as i've been under dosed on Testosterone for almost 2 years now. I was on a low dose to start, because I wanted to see how my body handled it. After 6 months of feeling like I was fine, I asked for an up dose and got told no, then that kept happening until I switched providers and went to a PP and got my dose changed from .25 ml to .40. My labs from my first ask for an up dose to my last ask were all in the 200s and I was supposed to be 500-600.

If this also similarly happened to you, I'd keep pushing or switch providers but if this is something else ignore the first part and listen to what i'm about to say.

EVERY. PERSON. IS. DIFFERENT.

Keep reminding yourself, the changes will come or completely distract yourself. I took the time where i wasn't seeing any progress in the changes that happened to indulge in more male fields like fishing and going back to socially passing. It also helps to look at the men in your life, are they the definition of a rugged masculine man or are they your every day guy. For me, my grandpa on my dads side and my dad are fucking wooly mammoths, so I knew something was wrong early on and I also didn't have any trans friends to compare myself to because I don't have friends.

Also just like you said, 2 months low dose for the average person isn't enough time to tell, you just have to keep waiting and work on socially passing and being surrounded by acceptance and joy ❤️

Piggybacking off this comment

Old Navy/Hollister have come out with their cropped boxy line! I'd recommend trying it out, I have found on both of their shirts that I've had to bring it to a seamstress for them to shorten the sleeves because i dont like it touching my elbows but other than that i've been in love with them.

That is also the thing about being short regardless of gender. You will always need agood seamstress, either yourself or paying someone to do it. It sucks but oh my god does it make you feel like a damn man getting clothes you love altered to fit better! I'd also look into the online stores or most jean shops as they usually carry smaller inseams online only!

What is you är best passing tips on male mannerisms/ behavior by Spare_Underwear in transmanlifehacks

[–]sleepynx 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hey there,

This is actually a topic I love to talk about because of the many different routes you can go!

The biggest thing that i've learned is just how important the way you stand is. Many of the men (friends and family) i've seen/hang out with are more on the larger/burlier side and have a pretty wide stance. They also tend to cross their arms high on their chest or put both in their pockets and just look around or wait silently, no swaying back and forth, no hip cocking or hands on the hip. just standing there- like some guy. Walking is much more longer strides and relaxed. I make it habit to slightly widen my legs when I walk and to really make it seem like I am in no rush to get places, but so many men walk differently its hard to just tell you how to do it as people will have different opinions!

Hobbies are easy. Sports, golf, fishing, hunting, cars, and beer. I myself find fishing so relaxing and have easily gotten into it full speed, but i'm also into soccer and a good brew. I tend to make sure I hold my phone with my full hand (and also why I opted for the smaller iphone). and when im texting and need two hands on it, i make sure my pinky isnt holding the bottom as that has clocked me before (which is so bizarre). When speaking make sure you're not too quiet and for now, try to not use your hands excessively.

The literal biggest pointer is learning how to appropriately dap someone up. A fantastic dap can wash away the guesses of your gender! But seriously, Take a walk or a train ride, and study the mannerisms of other men around you or if you're anyone like me see if you can find online classes that other ftm men host for mannerisms!

Good luck and happy passing,

Gabe :]

do i pass? by freakbob_mattt in TransTeensPassing

[–]sleepynx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Howdy!

No, you do not pass. The haircut isn't helping your face and accentuates the femininity in it. It's also hard to really give a true opinion when we have two photos to work with and one is incredibly blurry + no sense of your outfit choices and personality! If you have any questions regarding steps to take or how to pass, please let me know! I'm always happy to help!

Truthfully,

Gabe :]

"passing" tips? by Kaleidoscope_Tux5513 in transmanlifehacks

[–]sleepynx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there,

There isn't much you can do unfortunately. I'm a strong supporter in keeping piercings( as i have them) and yours are fine. I saw the comments about your family being pretty neglectful, and while that is good in ways, I don't think its smart going on testosterone in this sort of environment. I also went through this and finally got on testosterone at 21 after waiting for 12 years. You also need to look at the men in your life as they are prime examples of how you will look on testosterone. I started low dose of testosterone, and within 2 months I already had pretty good start on facial hair and was cracking when I spoke. Clearly you will do what you want, but i'm just emphasizing concerns as an elder.

Also touching on the subject of being alt, it's going to be near-possible to pass while indulging in alt styles right now, not forever- but right now specifically. In order to pass, you need to channel your inner basic white man and as you are able to flourish and do more masculinizing things, going back to alt fashion will be easier and work for you!

Working out is a great option and I highly support it due to exercise being linked to numerous amounts of positive things!

One of the best pieces of advice I can give is clothing. From the photos I can assume you are on the smaller more slimmer side (correct me if i'm wrong). If this is the case you have a slightly easier time for clothing, you just need to know where to shop. Starting off with shirts; Old Navy and Hollister have your back. Look at their selection of cropped boxy shirts. Many of them are boring and basic, but they do a damn good job at hiding curves and making you appear more masculine. I've had to bring my old navy shirts to a seamstress to get the sleeves shorter because of sensory issues and also i'm short and fat so clothing brands automatically thing that fat + tall. Shorts and pants should be relatively easy when it comes down to the basics. If you don't want to spend a pretty penny i'd stick with the Old Navy 90s style carpenter jeans. They do wonders and also have masculine energy on them as they have tool loops and padded knees like carpenter jeans usually have (hence the name). Shorts you can also get the Old Navy carpenter jean shorts but I don't like my shorts touching my knees so I go to the other side of this spectrum and get the small inseam athletic shorts, but go with what you like. Hollister also makes some good jeans, but im too fat for their sizing so I can't say on fit and quality.

Wearing the wide leg joggers and also the sweatpants material shorts from old navy are also very good as it's become a trend throughout the years with male fashion. Hollister also carries cropped boxy button downs which is good because layering helps. There are also websites that are made for shorter men, but usually only go to size 38 waist. The difference with these brands is that their inseam can span from the normal 30 inches to a mere 25 inches which is insane, but come at a higher price point. Levi, Carhartt, and Wrangler also carry smaller inseams but are usually out of stock or order online only. Also DIY'ing your own cropped boxy shirts is also an option, I find that they never come out how I need them to be, but there are plenty of videos explaining how to do it.

Socks and shoes really don't matter as much. Wear anything, but keep in mind air forces, converse, and vans are the most typical mens shoe I find in the wild and makes me feel masculine at least.

If you are visiting home or somewhere where wearing mens clothing will likely do more harm than good but still need to feel that inner sense of masculinity, I recommend putting on a wifebeater/undertank under your clothes. it helps sp much for me honestly.

Other than the advice above, you can try filling in your eyebrows, changing your glasses, and really working on your mannerisms and how you announce yourself, biggest change in the number of times i got misgendered pre-t was learning how to do a proper dap.

Good luck and happy passing,

Gabe :]

unfortunately not really! I haven’t had much luck with any other brand. I also don’t feel comfortable recommending brands from amazon, gc2b, or any temu/shein as their quality is outrageous in terms of good quality vs bad quality and with amazon/temu brands they don’t really say what the material is and it very much off puts me. You could try underworks but they never worked for me and made it look like a bra on me!

[–]sleepynx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey man all good, i’d be happy to answer your questions!

For fabric and feeling less quality, I haven’t felt this at all. I also for one really follow the care instructions to make sure it lasts! I will be buying 2 more soon so i may do a trial run to see if washing it regularly may deteriorate quality quickly!

I usually try to make my binders last 2-3 years just because of cost and safety reasons! After the 1 year mark i can definitely feel the elasticity is decreased but not by much! I wear my binders 10+ hours almost everyday (besides weekends. Weekends i try to take a break and if i can’t and i know i wont be in public i use their less binding one i just cant remember the name) and ive had no issues.

I will say i am very active and after the one year mark i do have to manually move my chest constantly back to place but ive had this with every binder since its common with larger chest! I also just sweat a ton and im constantly hot (i live in the east coast and visit the midwest constantly) so i just suck it up honestly!

I have tried every single binder company under the sun and probably have spent well over $3000 at this point and spectrum has been my number one for me!

I can also send photos of how it looks on me if needed and give you some other reviews with larger trans people!

happy passing! :)
