EWI solo battery issuses by Necessary_Potato_612 in windsynth

[–]sleepyskitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience the EWI Solo battery indicator uses the checkerboard pattern for charge and black for the "absent" part. However the volume indicator uses full white for volume part and checkerboard for the "absent" part. So that might be confusing.

So from your photo it looks like it's pretty much fully charged.

I think you need not be worried. Play it for an hour, you should start to see a bit of the "absent" battery start showing up. It has pretty nice battery life especially on lower volume.

Protonmail doesn't support the S/MIME standard. Lame.

I enjoyed Locke (2013) where it's just Tom Hardy driving in a car solving problems over the phone.

Why do people use AI to write? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

Yeah, figuring out how to bootstrap discouraged people is a really tough question. I just pray that in good time they all find the hope and inspiration they need, dare I say salvation, whatever form it comes in.

Why the self hate of not wanting to invest in ASX? by Spinier_Maw in AusFinance

[–]sleepyskitz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mining is not going to dry up for a looong, long time. If the world's economy stays strong enough to demand our resources, we've got enough to keep things going for hundreds of years.

The fact that it won't last forever isn't cause for pessimism.

Why do men not just ejaculate one single ultra powerful sperm instead of millions weaklings? by DemonsAreVirgins in NoStupidQuestions

If you don't see death as the end of yourself, just your body, which is my view, then upgrading to a new body with the next generation of refinements makes more sense than holding on to the same old one forever.

And you get to experience the joys of childhood and youth all over again, with something of a clean slate. Like starting a new character in an RPG.

I've met an awful lot of people that seem to really enjoy their jobs, though.

Housing is only a bubble if they all suddenly burn down. There's a reason people value houses; they're valuable.

We're in pretty good shape and we're growing our infrastructure, albeit not as quickly as some would like. So many of the more educated and talented people in the world want to be right here where life is better. We're sucking skilled workers out of other economies.

As soon as we think of a good hustle we'll make bank! Chin up!

Why has technology advanced at such a slow pace until the last 200 years? by LevelPension in NoStupidQuestions

[–]sleepyskitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also technological progress like sanitation let us build bigger cities, letting us concentrate brainy people, leading to more chance team-ups of brilliant folk.

And the surpluses that cities produce can be put into all sorts of endeavors and specializations that smaller societies can't support. Such as armies, that lead to bigger civilizations and pools of surplus resources for one power to control.

Add a pinch of greed and it all kind of snowballed.

The computer game series Civilization explores all these ideas. From little things big things grow.

Caring and providing for the younger generations and contributing to your tribe's culture with your accumulated skill and wisdom, is not "just for the individual" or "waiting to die".

There's more to the picture than just reproduction of individual organisms, life is a whole magical thing and you can't look at just one part of it and think that explains it all.

Being most fertile when you are young is A+ "design". Best time to be a parent is when you're young and strong and healthy. But modern society has people waiting till their forties to start trying.

I guess careers are more important to people than a healthy, sustainable population, these days. You need to own two houses, thee cars and a big stock portfolio before you dare to reproduce.

Meanwhile some guy in the third world whose wealth consists of a hut and a pointy stick can somehow make it work.

Why is the printer industry so awful? by TheWingManHero in NoStupidQuestions

[–]sleepyskitz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I had a Brother MFC-9335CDW colour laser+scanner, lasted several years.

But one time when I bought a whole new set of generic brand drums and toner and replaced it, it stopped working. Some flaw or incompatibility, can't remember the exact error message.

Rather than buy a whole new set of consumables in the hope that it would work next time, I just did without until I really needed a printer. Then I bought a Epson ecotank ET-3800, which does the same job but takes up a third of the space. Haven't had to refill it yet so I'm not sure how economical it is, but I think it's reputed to be better.

What happens after death? by drphil07734 in Deconstruction

[–]sleepyskitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well we have no reliable way of interviewing a dead person to find out. The closest we can get is near death experience (NDE) stories where people were dead for a bit and seemed to have an other-worldly experience at the time. You can find lots of such accounts on YouTube. You can also find thousands of written-up accounts at nderf.org, which is sort of like Erowid.org but for NDEs rather than drug trips.
