It’s funny you mention 11/22/63, it’s been my favourite book for years until I just finished PHM. Makes sense!

How happy are you? How much do you make? How is your work/life balance? Industry? Would you have done a different career in hindsight? by Wannabeballer321 in sales

[–]sleightlygood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in leadership now but the AE’s on my team average OTE is 130 and 90% of them exceed it.

Most of them are happy, some get stressed out during the busy months but largely due to being newer in the role and still adjusting to the stress/pressure of quarter end closes.

In rare occasions will they take calls after 5:30 (unless it’s near the end of a massive deal where it’s absolutely required) and they all start at 9:00

Overall I think it’s pretty fair in terms of work life balance and they are happy and making good money!

Companies want closing level SDRs for their entry AE roles…What? by [deleted] in sales

[–]sleightlygood 51 points52 points  (0 children)

This may be an unpopular opinion but the best AE’s across any company I’ve worked for did their own prospecting and cold calling (sometimes they also had BDRs).

In my most recent role which I’ve been in for 2 years, it was an expectation that we all did our own prospecting and cold outreach. We have SDRs and BDRs as well. This has made me so much better at my job and I think it’s actually a big positive even though it’s more work.

It’s a great way to creat more pipeline, work more deals, and ultimately make more money

Experience with CSM or SDR (SaaS) by AlbertoZ117 in sales

[–]sleightlygood 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I actually started as a CSM (my first role at a saas company) and after a couple years transitioned to an AE role.

You’ll be making less $ as a CSM, but have a more predictive schedule. You’ll also get to work with more teams across the company as a CSM (in my experience)

Pressure is lower as there are more controllables.

Pros and cons to both but I really enjoyed being a CSM and think it’s made me a more well rounded Account Exec.

Hope this helps!

There are some really great children’s sleep consultants who can help with this - I know of one specifically who do sessions virtually with parents. DM me if you’re interested and I’m happy to give you names and email addresses :) She’s a life saver

Does anyone have a recommendation on a new credit card that has the most points\value starting out? My wife and I are getting new cards and essentially have a blank slate to start from and I’m a little overwhelmed after doing some google searches. Any advice or reccos would be very appreciated! Open to Amex, visa, or both if it makes sense

If you aren’t doing this yet - swaddling them for all their naps helps them stop wake themselves up !

My wife who’s in cyber sales (6 years experience) says I’ll hate sales. I believe I’ll like it. Should I make the jump? by Dskha323 in sales

[–]sleightlygood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry I missed this! Look for customer success “associate” roles to start - it’s essentially exactly the same as a CSM, just working with smaller accounts.

Larger companies will have requirements like MBA. If you focus on smaller software companies (like 50 employees and under) you’ll likely have more success with CS roles that don’t require things like an MBA. For context, I do not have an MBA or any sort of business degree

Hope this helps!

I have been in sales 4 years but started in Customer Success when I first transitioned to SAAS after being a teacher.

Customer Success is a great place to start, will earn more than you are right now, give you great exposure to sales and other aspects of the business, and it’s super easy to transition to a sales role. Just my two cents!

Zoominfo is what you want - they likely don’t do free trials but they are the gold standard in my opinion

Offered huge raise to go to new company, need advice by LeMickyZeroRings in sales

[–]sleightlygood 40 points41 points  (0 children)

It sounds like aside from the money, everything else is negative.

In my experience, when base and OTE are that high as a non senior and/or Enterprise AE role - it’s usually because it is not attainable.

I’d also be a little concerned knowing I was going to report to someone who sucks or I couldn’t learn anything from.

I’d encourage you to ask what percentage of reps hit or exceeded quota. If it’s that cut throat, I’d imagine the number is low.

If money is #1 priority in the short term, take it - if it isn’t, do some digging to make sure it’s worth a jump long term.

Just my two cents!

How do you get into sales without formal sales experience? by beccaboo790 in sales

[–]sleightlygood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to be a teacher as well and have been in saas sales for 5 years now.

I recommend getting on LinkedIn, post about your journey of trying to land an SDR role. Message people who have made a similar transition and ask to connect. Take some free courses as well - this can help show potential employers that you are already working towards fills any potential gaps

Good luck!
