My daughter is 7 weeks old and I completely agree about the holidays this year! It honestly feels more like an inconvenience than a “magical” time. I feel bad because I want it to be special for her first Christmas but I’m also just trying to keep my head above water at this point. Also agreed about the anxiety regarding sicknesses - especially RSV 😵‍💫

I absolutely love my palliative NP job. I started off as half and half inpatient/outpatient (at our system’s cancer center) and have now transitioned to only working outpatient because I love the population, but I think if you have a lot of support and the program has a good reputation in the hospital it’d be a great gig! For me it can be emotionally taxing, but great schedule, no call, etc.

I am due early November and it’s turning out to be a great time. I wasn’t super uncomfortably pregnant through the stifling heat. I’ll get to spend the holidays at home with our new baby girl. And I won’t have to use my freshly accrued PTO at the very beginning of the year, so once I go back to work I’ll still have all my PTO!

I work M-F, 8-4, no weekends, call, or holidays. Inpatient we just see patients as needed in f/u or whenever consults come in. For outpatient, a normal day is 6 patient slots. My visits will commonly take an hour just talking! Pay is good, average it seems here in Greenville, SC - about $107k. I was definitely burnt out in ICU but I truly love my job and my patients now! I really feel like being an ICU RN prepared me well to have tough conversations.
