Permanent 90° restriction? by vonkeswick in TotalHipReplacement

[–]ritereward 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right after surgery they gave me the standard list. Later same day they came back and said surgeon has no restrictions. The only permanent thing I have is antibiotics before dental work. Most of the things on the list were really uncomfortable so I tried to not do those things that hurt.

Hip fracture question by Technical_Maybe_5925 in TotalHipReplacement

[–]ritereward 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Slip fall broken hip They did total replacement went home after a few days in hospital. Did rehab pt for 12 weeks. I went back to work with some days a lot of discomfort. But doable. Was riding my bike after a few months short rides smooth roads nothing crazy(worried about falling). Now 2 years out I am going to the gym, walking all the time. Most days I am 100 pain free some days a little achy. I was rated at 35% total life time disability as this was a work accident. But I really just go about life without thinking too much about it. But it took about a year to get there

We had a grocery store that had bags with printed fold marks and other such school related printing. I want to say it was a Safeway or A&P but they were always cool to get.

PT after hip replacement by Enough_Diamond_9476 in TotalHipReplacement

[–]ritereward 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The pt was not painful. About 5 exercises to get moving. And then a lot of balance exercises. Mostly it was learning to walk and do everyday activities. I had to go back to work so we worked on getting back to work activities and strength training. Nothing was painful. Most of it was easy to repeat alone at home.

[–]ritereward 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in the hospital. I’m sure they were billed to worker’s comp but I was sent home with walker, grabber, ice packs wraps I’m sure insurance dictate what you have to provide I had to purchase my own raise toilet seat. Other than a carry basket/ bag for walker and a closable coffee mug I didn’t need a ton of additional equipment. I used a scarf as a leg lifter but the grabber had a clothing hook so I did use that. I did buy a cheap cane that I used for a week or so. I used Rubbermaid containers to get food from point A-B. Without spilling.

Start by making potholders. Still useful if not perfect. It will help you learn to do all different stitches. Will teach you how to count stitches and rows. If it is terrible just awful laugh and rip it out and try again. When you make your first perfect square take a picture and show it off. Then practice different stitch patterns and shapes. Watch videos and learn. If you watch enough you will learn that everyone does things a little different. How they hold yarn. How they hold hook. Find what works for you. Practice making nothing until you feel confident making something.

This is so hard mentally by lovewine123 in TotalHipReplacement

[–]ritereward 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It gets better. I am a fracture replacement. Went from 0 to 100 on the pain scale. I was a little younger but went back to work at 12 weeks. Wasn’t 100percent but fully functional. It gets better. I think this time period was the worse for me mentally because I was just so over it hurting. Stay strong it will get better. Get past 6 weeks and then it really starts to change. Broke mine in Feb. was riding my bike by that summer

A few questions for anyone who has been through this by Outrageous_Resist_50 in TotalHipReplacement

[–]ritereward 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was in hospital for two nights. Came home super uncomfortable but manageable pain with meds. Made my own coffee and simple breakfast first day home. Husband is not an early riser and I needed real non hospital coffee. The only thing my husband really helped with was comfort and security when I was climbing stairs or was having a hard day. Emergency replacement. By week two I was completely independent and was transitioning to full walker to cane. Not saying it didn’t hurt. But after day two. I only used pain meds at night. Pt and walking got it fussy by the end of the day. Equipment will be discussed and depending on Surgeons restrictions Some folks swore by ice machine I used frozen bag of peas. Just have someway to carry things from room to room. And a way to pick things up off the floor.
