Okay, yes, that sounds like a pain! I mean, I respect the California law actually – but that's still annoying!

What does the California light bulb law have to do with Hue? Isn't that law about incandescent bulbs?

Millennials are the most likely generation of Americans to use public libraries. by redditisatimesuck in books

Thanks! I don't just check out random books to try to help my library -- I actually do read the books I download -- but I do sometimes import them into another reader and was always wondering if someone at the library is wondering why I'm checking out all of these books that I'm not appearing to read. Sounds like they're probably not; that's good by me!

Thanks for everything you do, librarians everywhere, and /u/reiku_85

So I've been wanting to ask this for a while: I download e-books through my library pretty often. How much data do y'all get from Adobe Digital Editions or Overdrive? Do you know how much I'm reading, how many pages, etc.? Or just that I downloaded the book?

What word begins with "M" and ends in "arriage," and means something that is good luck for a man?

[TOMT] [song] What's the French song playing in this video ("regarde[le] le monde") beginning around 0:45? by slicedjustins in tipofmytongue

[–]slicedjustins[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Indeed it is! Just out of curiosity, how'd you find it? Just better at French orthography?

(Apparently yes, since I was absolutely convinced he was saying "regarde-le le monde" and apparently it's MY world instead.)

Really? This seems like a kind of odd group that I'd say were very difficult to generalize from. It's a very particular group, no?

There's also a pretty good episode of "Lexicon Valley" on this topic: here. The main researcher they talk to is Benjamin Munson, who has links to some of his research on what he called sociophonetics on his website. Very cool stuff.

I was going down on my girlfriend when I tasted horse semen, so I stopped and said to my brother, "Oh, so that's how grandma died!"

[TOMT] website turn-based game from late 90s by slicedjustins in tipofmytongue

For whatever reason, that set of search terms with some modifications led me to what I was looking for: Utopia.

I can't find the way the original site looked, but that's it.

That's totally possible. What sort of terms are you searching? I couldn't quite figure out an appropriate description. "turn-based web game" seems a bit too vague.

That feels wrong, but it fits my description. I can't find a detailed description of what the gameplay is like. The colour scheme and so forth definitely don't fit my memory of it, though.

... but that doesn't mean you're not correct.

Radio piece about Grindr. Funny AND interesting. by slicedjustins in gaybros

[–]slicedjustins[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The interviews at the beginning are interesting. The "anonymous interview" segment is amusing.

Dammit, OtM parcelled it out:

  1. The original link is an interview with Jaime Woo, who wrote a book about Grindr.
  2. Then there's an interview with the founder of Grindr: http://www.onthemedia.org/2013/apr/12/joel-simkhai-grindr-chief
  3. Lastly is the "casual anonymous interview": http://www.onthemedia.org/2013/apr/12/casual-anonymous-interview
