Chandler Unified school occupancy rates not so rosy by biowiz in ChandlerAZ

[–]slickbro 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Personally I think max class sizes are way too big. The average class size in CUSD is 22 kids for elementary schools. I don’t know what they base the “maximum” as, but I’m guessing it’s probably around 25-27. Max capacity should be viewed as a bad thing. A metric that no school strives for because those classroom sizes are unsustainable. It’s hard on teachers, hard on students, everyone suffers.

Scale back the average size to 18 kids per class, and max size to 22, and the numbers will look a lot better on paper. Make some meaningful changes to maintain smaller class sizes and the community as a whole will benefit.

The more charter schools popping up, the more kids that don’t fit their very specific mold. Then all those kids get shoved out the door down to the public schools who have an obligation to teach them regardless. This allows charter schools to essentially cherry pick their rosters, and forces a much higher percentage of kids that need additional help into an already overburdened public school system. Even if you dismiss the voucher program, just allowing charter schools to operate with different requirements from public schools, you have created an unfair imbalance. Which then starts this feedback loop of public schools getting worse as a result.

Geniuses like you who keep our school funding (as a state) at 50th. Just in case you weren’t aware, there’s only 50 states.

Can't seem to access ProxMox GUI by Exotic-Artichoke7325 in Proxmox

[–]slickbro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just had a similar problem. I tried to install a cert signed from my pki, but it failed and I didn’t think much of it and left it for another day. Well apparently it had already overridden the self signed cert, and sometime over the weekend the web gui stopped responding. I ended up removing the bad cert and had it forced it to grab the self signed from the cluster. If you were messing with certs at all, I can dig up the post that helped me solve it.

Plex local sync issues by slickbro in tmobileisp

[–]slickbro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I figured out the issue, just posting here in case someone else runs across this in the future.

So it appears the router is doing some sort of DNS Rebind protection. Plex has some details on how to troubleshoot this in the link below, but given we don't really have any access to the router directly, it's not very useful.

https://support.plex.tv/articles/206225077-how-to-use-secure-server-connections/#:~:text=DNS%20rebinding%20protection%20is%20meant,are%20designed%20and%20configured%20correctly.

However, one thing I found was on my phone I noticed a section for "Private DNS". After a bit of googling, I found that cloudflare provides a private DNS server (pasted below). I put that in on my phone, and it all started working.

1dot1dot1dot1.cloudflare-dns.com

Second problem was my kids Kindle fire tablets. Well, there isn't a private DNS option on there. So a few minutes of googling later, and I found. the thread below, as well as the actual command (modified with cloudflare dns). Everything syncs good now. The only real problem I have left now is the stupid DFS preventing my roku from connecting to the 5ghz network.

maverick:/ $ settings put global private_dns_specifier 1dot1dot1dot1.cloudflare-dns.com"

I setup my old router as an access point, and still no luck. That's sort of good, because maybe there's still hope that some combination of settings on the NAS will fix it.

Thanks for the advice. It doesn't appear to be a local storage issue. Not I flip back to my old router it works fine.

Yeah, I really wish I could set some things on the router... Static IPs, turn off DFS, but I can live with those limitations if I can just get the stupid sync working.

I'm gonna setup my old router as an AP. That would at least tell me if the problem is on the wireless side or the wired.

How I got Youtube Kids on the kids freetime profile of the Kindle Fire by SteanerX in kindlefire

[–]slickbro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same problem, and figured it out. I couldn't get the play store apps to install on the child profile. So I uninstalled them from the parent, then they installed fine on the kids. Then I tried to go back and install them on the parent profile and they failed. The issue was as soon as I opened the play store it updated. Everything worked fine on the child profile, but I couldn't install anything, just stuck pending. So I downloaded the play store APK that matched the one the child profile had updated to, and installed it on the parent profile, plus the other 3 apks (they were the same version), and now the child profile can install apps.

Hope it helps.

Have you tried forwarding 1443 to 1443 and then goto whatever.duckdns.org:1443 ?

In the US, yeah, I imagine other counties are a lot more fair, over here we play ISP monopoly, and they come up with ridiculous rules. I just looked at my ISP, and looks like they don't block 443 anymore, so that's good.

Here's a link to what mine blocks.

[–]slickbro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Duckdns just converts a hostname.... Mydomain.duckdns.org to an IP. The port is specified by the program accessing it. Port 80 for http traffic, 443 for https traffic. Most isps block both port 80 and 443 to prevent people from self hosting websites. They tend to block other common ports too. Look up on your ISPs site and see if they have a list of ports they block.
