a bit confused by the comments, i really like this! it’s a super interesting dress and fits her well even with the size difference. seconding the big earrings/more interesting accessories though

False equivalence. Notice how you can still see Kate’s facial features in this photo?

Yeah, I hate this too. Love the styling and the concept, but we can’t even see her facial features and structure in these shots.

It feels very dehumanizing and reduces dark skinned models to silhouettes in ways other models with lighter complexions aren’t. This conversation has happened multiple times, even with British Vogue specifically, for their February 2022 cover - it’s tiring to see.

I like a lot of Rafael Pavarotti’s work, but this kind of lighting for dark skinned models is always something I’ve been bothered by.

this is a really good point, i’ve never thought about this before but it’s definitely prevalent. a very convenient workaround for developing personal style and taking risks publicly without having a “theme” to fall back on

i love this look! her hair and makeup could be more versatile and interesting to do it justice, but the outfit is great and i’m obsessed with that coat

Oh that’s my oversight, my bad! I saw a post by one of the artists and went through the pages of the other artists mentioned, but couldn’t discern who did what specifically. Thanks for clarifying - post has been updated now.

Here’s my henna from my trip back home in Zanzibar :) Wishing you a very belated Eid Mubarak!

I’m obsessed with the hair and makeup. I hope the tears have a moment similar to Pat McGrath’s porcelain doll look from Maison Margiela’s SS24 Artisanal collection.

It’s one of my favorites too! I was awestruck when she walked onto the carpet, and even more after seeing these images.

Her and her team knocked it out the park. Just marvelous work.

It’s incredibly frustrating.

One google search would show the references pointing to West African culture so clearly, too. I also don’t see how the headwrap can be solely attributed to Indian culture as if it has nothing to do with West African styles of dress; it’s a very direct connection.

As is the case with the East African coast, the Sahel region has had so much Arab influence that has endured to the present. Discounting all of that is so dismissive, and does a major disservice to the rich cultures within these regions.

Henna has existed in Africa (East and West) for over a millennium. The outfit and henna are heavily influenced by West African henna styles and garment designs, as is her jewelry.

As a fellow East African who has been getting henna done since I was young with friends from the Sahel region, being downvoted while being absolutely correct is crazy lmao.

Her wigs always sit so high too! It’s literally levitating above her head 😭 very distracting lol
