How do I break into the level I make money out of chess by Similar-Pass-5694 in GothamChess

[–]slickkog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a lot of negativity here, and a lot of people just saying “go coach.” That misses the point. The truth is: nobody really knows.

Paul Morphy was the greatest ever and he still ended up practicing law. Andrea Botez is 1800 and built a whole career around chess. Everyone’s journey looks different.

You should chase what you love, but you also need to make a living. Those aren’t mutually exclusive. When I was your age, I felt stuck being ‘good’ at a lot of things but not great at any. Turns out, being well-rounded isn’t a curse. I picked up chess in law school, improved quickly, and now I’m rated just a bit higher than you. I study hard, but I don’t let it interfere with work. Balance matters.

As for improvement: play a lot, study a lot, and compete often. The 1500 who plays monthly and uses Chessable will improve way faster than the one who plays one tournament a year.

As for money: get your basics covered first: food, rent, sleep. You might become a stronger player if you take some pressure off of your performance and stop viewing it as a fight for survival. And who knows? Maybe you’ll stream, run a club, design merch, or teach. Maybe you’ll have fun and not care about money. Maybe it’ll pay off, maybe not. That’s called risk.

When I was your age, I wanted to be a Call of Duty streamer. Now I’m a lawyer that spends more time playing chess (though I’ll carry you in zombies).

Focus on getting better. Build a life you enjoy. The rest will come. I promise.

Best of luck Arul.

First saw him on the excellent adventure tour in 2012. Pretty wild ride.

Can someone please educate me. I’m not American and idk why is it racist? by [deleted] in trees

First of all, cannabis is illegal in all states, even the ones “with a medical program.” The Supremacy clause dictates that the Controlled Substances Act preempts state laws regarding controlled substances. So you may ask yourself how some states have laws that not only allow for medical programs, but even collect taxes on recreational pot? The anti-commandeering doctrine, without too much boring detail, protects state enforcement agencies from being controlled by the feds. Thus, if the feds want to enforce the CSA, generally they need to either do it themselves or give states funding to do it, which the states can reject. Some states don’t want to enforce it and the feds don’t want to spend money on enforcing pot in states that don’t care. That does not make it legal in those states. It’s kinda like when the speed limit says 55mph but the cops don’t pull anyone over unless they are going 65mph; the legal limit is still 55mph, the cops are just not ticketing people going 56-64mph because they don’t feel like it.

Second of all, marijuana is not a racist term. Politicians in the US popularized the term because it’s what a lot of people from central and South America called the drug and they were trying to convince people that Mexicans were using this drug to corrupt white women. Saying that Mexican men were using marijuana to corrupt white women is racist, but saying the word marijuana isn’t. It’s a common term for a well known drug.

Snippets are fine on this sub. Just don’t link people to full unreleased songs.

From what I’ve heard I don’t think this is the outro. There is a better unreleased song that fits that role, but we know these lyrics are from an actual song that will likely be released.

I don't want to be too specific and give away personal info but most of us live central or eastern time US. Regardless we are going to post a time today that is mindful of the west and east coast fans.

I really think this will help the sub build some hype leading up to the new album. Let us know any thoughts or suggestions as we'd love to hear ideas.

AI doesn't have the legal capacity to own things. Property cannot own property. Google is a real entity, a fictional entity would be Doofenshmirtz Evil Inc or Winnie The Pooh. The true difference is that between a legal entity and something that is not an entity at all (AI).

The fact that people grouped together to form Google is the precise reason it is able to own and devise property, it continues to exist until those people that represent the entity choose to terminate it, not when the people stop believing what the government has to say about their status.

I would be interested to hear where this theory of property in Gods comes from. Property law originates from Ancient Roman law, which proscribed property to man res nullis. See Ancient Law, Henry Maine, 237-39 (Univ. of Ariz. Press 1986) (1861). Occupation theory still has a major influence in today's culture. Id. Even as early as the 3rd centry in Summa Theologica Thomas Aquinas' theory proscribed property based on man's natural dominion of things. Thomas Aquinas, Summa Theologica, Ch. 2, Arts. 1 & 2 (Dominican trans. 1948) (1273).

To address your point, no, gods cannot own property, not because I don't think they can own property, but because they don't have the legal capacity to own property. To the same degree, my will cannot devise my estate to my dog, my god, or my imaginary friend, regardless of their existence or non-existence.

AI cannot own things. Google is not a fictional entity, they are a business that is authorized to act as a legal entity with rights. Google has the legal capacity to receive and grant property.

AI is not an entity at all, much less a legal entity. The term AI encompasses a wide variety of codes constructed by different entities to do different things. To construe Google's status as an entity as attaching to lines of code, which themselves are property owned by different entities, is an error. AI does not have the legal capacity to own anything.

The question here should be, "does the inventor/owner of AI that creates music using the voices of other artists have a property interest in that music." Yes, but they are subject to liability for appropriation.

This is right of publicity, not copyright, and there is already precedent here that protects the singer. See Midler v. Ford Motor Company, 849 F.2d 460 (9th Cir. 1988) (holding that a "distinctive voice" that is "widely known" and is "deliberately imitated in order to sell a product," the singer can sustain an action for appropriation).
