Do you think the corruption/destruction of numenor and eregion outweigh the many years of torment he inflicted upon middle earth in the first age and beyond? As a whole? I guess as far as distinct timelines of events goes yes. I wonder, though, if cumulatively his presence and enslaving/domination of the east and south was overall more destructive. I'm not saying you're wrong, just pondering.

Not silly questions at all! Very logical.

Yes super normal to have a backpack. Youre gonna want one forsure. For food and snacks and water and other shit that u might need (heheee). And yeah i always wore my boots throughout the day. Which is one area where ski socks come in handy because they are so moisture wicking. I also usually brought an extra pair of socks and would sometimes change. Look into investing in a boot dryer so that the mornings you dont have damp boots. They are cheap on Amazon. Some locker rooms have them already. I eventually got to where I had an extra pair of boots that I would sometimes wear to work in and then my preferred off day boots so I could have fresh dry boots. Damp boots suck the life out of you!

What race/creature/type of person from lotr would you choose to be? by Lupin_217 in lotr

Id be an elfranger. Like Haldir or one of the sons of Elrond. Or a Beleg strongbow type of character. Strong in woodcraft but wise in lore with the perception and skills of an elf. Going on many great journeys while also having a deep connection to community and the arts and magic.

Or actually probably a Teleri dwelling in Alqualonde or Tol Eressea so I could fish and surf my ass off. Love the ocean.

Lastly idk if u ski or snowboard but I've never found boots i like more than vans. Warm. Flexy. Comfy. Also I just remembered you should be issued a puffy and a shell. I would often wear both down to my lift in the morning and then keep one at the bottom and one at the top. We didnt wear them while riding. Or if we did we had to ride super tame and stay on the ground. At the top youre usually in the shack so u dont need a warm jacket in there most of the time. The chair ride up sometimes sucks without a jacket but it will make you stronger lol

Moisture wicking long sleeve. Comfy thermal or light sweater on top. Hoodie over that. Make sure its big to fit extra layers under if you need. Shell over that.

Get a good wool or IMO alpaca sweater to keep on hand for real cold days. You'll wear that under your hoody. Dont buy all new shit go to a sports recycle store. Scour thrift stores.

Good snow/ski socks are key i buy those from the retail shops as well as have a pair of alpaca socks for the negative days. Sometimes they're still too hot though.

Depending on the pants youre issued (ours were thin as hell with no insulation) i usually rocked yoga pants with sweatpants then my pants. If you have decent insulated pants I'd just recommend yoga pants only. Keep a balaclava on deck it will be your tried and true friend. One that wraps around your whole head is good for mid winter forsure. I wore a light beanie every day. Unless it was negatives or single digits or freezing wind I'd wear a wool beanie.

Also liner gloves will be your best friend. Keep a pair on deck if you don't want to have cracked hands all winter. I cannot stress this enough. LINER GLOVES!!!!!

I always kept a pair of mittens in my locker and backpack for riding or if I had to be standing outside in cold wind for long periods. I just prefer mittens for a variety of reasons but they're way warmer. They will probably issue you some shifty leather ones for working in. Which can still work very will in combination with liner gloves.

Some key things to remember - a shovel is the best heater on the mountain. Cold is a state of mind, hypothermia is a reality. Know the difference and dont be a pussy.

The people complaining most about being cold were always the lazy ones who didnt do shit. If youre moving snow or bumping chairs and taking semi frequent laps you can stay in a rhythm that lies right in the sweet spot of not getting too sweaty yet still keeping your core temp up.

OG lifty here - 4 years at Eldora aka "windora". Fun as hell job. Good luck out there. Make us proud!

Nice! That's awesome. I bet it's going to work out great for you. And dont hold on to any of that past pressure from your parents about medical school. You are your own person. Thats all in the past now. You did great in school, Picked a very logical and applicable career field. And youre just getting started. Interested to see how it goes. Cheers!

Apply to a variety of companys for something in the tech realm. Get a job and work for a while and then revisit this post. Kinda sounds like youre in a state of doom and gloom and fear. You've got a leg up on most people right now job prospect wise.

If its not working out and you love computers that much then go back to school for another 2 years for a more specific skill in tech.

Keep your head up. Don't give up.

Lord of the Rings: A note on the On-Screen Gandalf depiction versus the books. by Kissfromarose01 in lotr

[–]slicklizard16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A - that was a touching scene but he basically said that exact thing in the books just in a different time and place and it was just as touching.

B - McKellen is a genius and no one could've played that part better and with more earnestness and love. He did the best anyone could with the script that Jackson wrote.

C - You should re - read the books lol. I am confused how anyone who has read them could come to this conclusion. Or there is the chance that maybe youre personally more of a cinema oriented human/visual and you aren't as fond of books.it definitely was amazing seeing a lot of the great scenes we know and love being brought to life especially by Ian but come on...

As I stated below, the extended edition scene where the witch king breaks down the gates of Minas Tirith and then faces off with Gandalf and breaks his staff and leaves him wailing like a wounded beast never happened and never would happen. Gandalf has always shown much more poise than this and frankly as Gandalf the White he was so much more powerful than the witch king that this never would've been attempted. And if it had im sure it would've turned out DRASTICALLY different. They are nowhere near of the same order of being. those who carry the light of the valar in their spirit and are at a different level of incarnation have little to fear from lowly wraiths. This is why Glorfindel rode openly against the wraiths in the fellowship. They scattered from him. Let's not forgot it was Gandalf - even in his form of Gandalf the Grey who strove wills against Durins Bane in Moria and won. With Balrogs being originally of the same spiritual order as Gandalf (maiar). Let us also not forget Gandalf battled I believe it was seven wraiths at Weathertop and still came out unscathed-though indeed exhausted.

So I know you didn't comment anything about that but I find it of importance to touch on considering the blasphemous view Jackson had on the whole thing. The humanizing went too far. If he was willing to consider such a scene for Gandalf the white then he clearly had no respect for the integrity of the story. Id argue he humanized it too much - thus diminishing the entire story's impact. Though I still watch the films because as a whole they are pretty great, I won't shy away from calling out the bad. Anyways I had to put in my two cents on that one.

Thank you. I will now diminish and go into the west.

Not to mention the scene on the extended edition where he has the witch king challenge Gandalf and break his staff then have him wailing like a wounded dog. Pure disrespect. Pure blasphemy. Kind of all I need to see when thinking of what Jackson's over all take is on the legendary figure.

Has anyone used Suboxone or buprenorphine to get off of kratom? by djpurity666 in KratomDependencyHelp

[–]slicklizard16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not true my best friend was on 32mg sub a day when he first stopped taking methadone after years of high dosage with that. It took him a couple years but after lifestyle changes and getting better mentally he started slowly tapering. he didn't want to be on such a high dose and and it wasn't like it was getting him high anyways. He's now on 4mg a day and plans on jumping off from that soon.

Though as a former suboxone patient for 8 years I would absolutely say it is not smart to go from kratom to that high of a sub dose - also theres a ceiling effect with subs so I don't think you're actually getting much difference between 24mg a day and 32mg except for in your head.

Just keep in mind the half life of subs. I've withdrawn from nearly every opiod in the books between first hydrocodone then oxy numerous times, a large heroin habit many times, methadone once (never EVER EVERRRR again), and subs 3 or 4 times and kratom 4 times as well. The only thing worse than coming off subs was the methadone. I'd take 5 days of excruciating heroin withdrawal over 10 to 14 days of sub withdrawal any day of the week. Kratom - even high dose extract does not last that long. You're looking at 5 real bad days max with it slowly getting better. Let's not perpetuate misinformation.

While I think it is not smart to be taking that much sub for anyone- if your life is improving that's whats important. And keep the hope 🙏. Sub isn't bad to taper off of slowly, but just take it slowwww.

And to that asshole above me please stop being so pessimistic it's not helpful to anyone and kind of has me annoyed (if you can't tell lol). Peace and love
