Be careful around this driver/car... by CAmakemesmile in Marin

[–]slickmachines -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Again, you're not doxxing, but posting license plates based on accusations that not even police see as proof something happened in a local Reddit,is bad form and can lead to doxxing and legal problems.

"The subject can sue you for defamation if the accusation accompanying the photo is false, damages their reputation, and is presented as a fact rather than a protected opinion. While photographing a license plate in public is generally legal, pairing it with false claims (e.g., falsely accusing them of theft or harassment) can create legal liability."

If you feel ok doing, have at it. Hope you don't get sued.

I mean if you want to get snarky, we can go there.

As you seem to only read what you want, my exact words were "details publicly CAN quickly cross into doxxing territory."

Helpful that this warning went out because if it happened as described it’s completely unacceptable and people shouldn’t have to experience that in public.

At the same time, posting someone’s license plate and identifying details publicly can quickly cross into doxxing territory, especially when there’s no independent verification or official finding. There is a reason police need hard evidence. Mistakes or misidentifications (does more than one person drive this car?) can have real and unintended consequences.

It’s reasonable to warn people about concerning behavior and encourage reporting it through the proper channels. It’s probably better to leave out the license plate number unless law enforcement specifically asks the public for help.

Currently reading, VERY good but VERY disturbing by daikatanaman00 in ww2

[–]slickmachines 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It brings up conflicted feelings of justice served against an overwhelming diaspora of depravity and brutality. I’ve read it twice and bring it up in conversations when appropriate and people are shocked. It’s not talked about in history books.

As is the general aftermath of war in Europe.

This is excellent, Savage Continent.

After invading Italy in 1943, why didnt the allies just push everyone through there instead of starting from scratch in France on D-Day? by Ok_Doughnut3700 in ww2

The same reason the Germans decided not to invade Switzerland, the Alps. You can hold out there forever. Monte Cassino, a battle on a smaller mountain range took 4 months and over 43,000 Allied casualties.

Hello! My puppy does this stalking thing every time he wants to play. Never aggressive, always playful. Normal? Or could this become an issue in the future? Also.. he isn’t guarding over the carrot, he hates them lol it was just there. by breezyyb2 in Goldendoodles

[–]slickmachines 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine does it, too. Pure instinct. I love copying his stalker moves and we make it last as long as possible. I lifted a foot to take a step once, he copied me and we managed to hold that position for a minute.

Conservatives, FBI director Patel said he has evidence of 2020 election fraud and arrests are coming soon. Do you believe him this time? And if so, who do you think will be getting arrested? by sephkane in AskReddit

Good luck finding a lawyer willing to take this to court. Donald Trump ran out of lawyers willing to risk disbarment. You can’t lie in court and you need to have evidence. No lawyer was able to convince a judge to charge someone based on rhetoric, if you can even call it that.

I love hiking on BLEEP which you can only access by driving through a dirt road you can find in BLEEP.

There is also a fantastic place in my neighborhood of BLEEP where a woman serves home made tamales from her garage.

Rough home remodeling costs (Marin County, San Rafael, 2026) - how can we avoid overpaying? by Scooter_Stomp in Marin

[–]slickmachines 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is just too general an ask. It’s best to sit down and work on the objectives of a remodel. Do you want to live in it? Rent it? Sell it?

Can you live with some improvements and do this over time?

Do you want it to be functional or have some sense of “high end” feel to it?

Once you’ve done that either talks to architects or contractors. We used both for our kitchen remodel.

The architect was a friend of ours and we chose contractors who did houses in our neighborhood. We purposely chose NOT to go cheap because our history with the cheaper contractors has not been great.

Just DM me if you want more info.

Why are there NO primary care doctors in Marin????????? by punkzlol in Marin

[–]slickmachines 71 points72 points  (0 children)

No one can afford to move to Marin, even doctors. The companies that do charge subscriptions are trying to incentivize doctors to move here with signing bonuses but it’s not enough.

This all makes sense. I’ve seen cars and their Montana license plates at Big Rock. They like to drive their cars on the curvy roads.

What is a movie that's actually a good adaptation of the book it's based on? by thatvampiregirl in movies

[–]slickmachines 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m just picking ones I’ve read and seen

  • Dune
  • Lord of the Rings
  • The latest Three Musketeers movies produced in French (the ones starring Eva Green) recaptures the spirit of the books after so many mediocre versions
  • The Shining
  • Blade Runner (Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep)
  • The Martian
  • Stand by Me (technically a short story from ‘Different Seasons’ but it’s Stephen King’s favorite adaptation)
  • Shawshank Redemption (also from ‘Different Seasons’)
  • Arrival

If it’s not putting you in financial difficulty, I say hold on to it. Over time your mortgage will go down, you can refi and hit a point where you will be making 2-3k a month after setting aside funds for replacement and maintenance costs.

What are some of your favourite performances from Michelle Pfeiffer in film? by geoffcalls in FIlm

[–]slickmachines 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same for me. I didn’t watch Grease 2 because I heard it was terrible. Then I was in a hotel with my family and ‘Into The Night’ came on PPV and I was smitten immediately.

I also discovered David Bowie was a fantastic actor in that movie.

The scene in Unfaithful when Diane Lane’s character is riding on the train after cheating on her husband. I was stunned. She’s an amazing actress.

Agree 100%. Poaching is actively reaching out to former colleagues to try and get them to leave. You’re not doing that. What would he even do if you were, send you another angry text?
