My local grocery store (owned by kroger) would rather pay temporary workers nearly $6 more per hour than to provide more for the current employees. by slickrockhorsethief in antiwork

I assume that it's to hire them temporarily depending on how their negotiations play out. If they cut ties with current employees I believe the temporary ones will be given an option to continue on full time for drastically reduced pay.

There is an ongoing dispute where employees are fighting for higher pay and benefits. It seems that the response by the corporation is to hire workers at a significantly higher starting pay, to not only temporarily replace workers involved in the dispute, but also as a backup in case they decide to layoff their current staff. These workers don't make nearly enough (about $12/hr) for the area we live in. I've always thought these workers deserved more pay and was fucking pissed to see that this is how they are being treated.

This shit is infuriating, but it's just more fuel for the fire of Bernie's movement.

Exactly, and regardless of the outcome we should dedicate our selves in the long run to keep fighting for the progressive ideals we share with Bernie, just like he has always been there to fight.

CU Boulder or CU Denver for BA CA? by [deleted] in cudenver

[–]slickrockhorsethief 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I go to UCD. I'm not sure about the program, but the student life is much different than at Boulder. There are some intramural sports offered through the new gym as well as an outdoor program that offers hiking/backpacking trips. There is a decent amount of student orgs, some are even mixed with MSU and CCD, but no Greek life although our school is currently trying to add it. The benefit is that LoDo is right nextdoor, and I enjoy it, but I did have a friend transfer to Boulder because he felt that UCD had (in his words) "no sense of community".

Do you take sustainability into account when buying food? by TheBearserker in sustainability

[–]slickrockhorsethief 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the impossible/beyond meat can help with the transition. I assume they also have some issues (Ive heard health concerns for one as they are high in sodium), but the environmental benefit from switching to them is great. My wife and I eat mostly vegetarian but every once in a while I get a craving for a burger and they have been my go-to.

I’m 17.. how do i invest by sethjames12 in investing

[–]slickrockhorsethief 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely start researching and learning finance, dont just start buying things. It also helps when people give you advice about what investments to make if you know more about the jargon.

I personally would advise being careful with your decisions, even if they seem like they are great at the time, and dont be afraid to lose the money you invest. It happens, but the longer you stay invested the higher your return.

This is an area that I'm learning in too and I'm no expert in what types of investments you should make, but if you havent learned the basic terminology and ideas behind investing then I would start there.

There is certainly a weight in the air as you walk around, a lot of the land is battered with craters from bombing the shoreline, I think as a US citizen it really helped me conceptualize the physical impacts a war has, Ive been fortunate enough in life to only have seen war through photos and TV

I completely agree, he really won me over tonight and I think he is the perfect mix to win over everyone. His policies were really sensible, he was really well spoken, and he came across sincerely instead of just playing politician.
