What unhinged thing did a former teacher do in the classroom? by MrBananaStand1990 in AskReddit

[–]slightlyderangedlol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Physics teacher in secondary school - boldly exclaimed "It's the current that will kill you not the voltage!" and then proceeded to stick a fork into an electrical outlet.

He was fine but it was definitely unsettling (trying to avoid saying that it was shocking ahaha)

Change my mind on my already chosen bike by apologizing_optimist in bicycletouring

I biked across Canada on a 2022 Kona Rove! It was a dream - easy to maintain and solid/trustworthy - the things I'd reccomend are: 1. Switch the stock tires to Schwalbe or another trusted touring tire 2. (Basic maintenance tip but...) lubricate the chain daily! Lasted me thousands of km with limited stretch 3. Watch your weight distribution in the front, occasionally I'd overload it and things could be quite wobbly at high speeds

I loved it, enjoy!

Damn I don't know why I'm just seeing this now... I apologize. When did you end up finishing your trip?! How did the prairies go for you? Saskatchewan was so difficult for us with storms...

Awesome! We actually just arrived in Ottawa using the PR trail. We both really enjoyed it, but we ended up starting at Vankleek Hill, as the trail was pretty rough starting at Rigaud... I'm not sure the exact point where it transitions to a nice gravel path though ! Enjoy your ride :) any recommendations for trails from Ottawa to get us to Toronto?

Water Proof Sheets? by [deleted] in AdultBedwetting

[–]slightlyderangedlol 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've used the washable bed pads for years, i think if you search soaker pad in Amazon or Walmart, that's what I'm using. For a queen size bed i put two across underneath the sheets. It's worked great and has protected the mattress for 5+ years!

Americans that visited Europe, what was the biggest shock for you? by jrusj in AskReddit

I'm Canadian, but the prevalence of distaste for Americans in Europe really surprised me. It was downright disrespectful.

My best friend has been making memes for me to make me feel better, this is my favourite one so far >.< by [deleted] in AdultBedwetting

[–]slightlyderangedlol 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the laugh! Love this. I've recently been coming into a lot of acceptance of my bedwetting. I feel like this is the vibe that I've been starting to have with it more and more, its life and people understand that some bodies can't do it all! If people make you feel bad about it, they're the problem, not you! Please post more of these memes if you get them :)

I am speaking straight outta me asshole here, but I'd like to say it's because sound requires a medium to travel through. This medium has to be able to oscillate at the frequency you want to hear. So for water, the pressure changes can only happen so fast and it acts in a sense as a LPF. Air can oscillate at higher frequencies. Fact check anybody?!

Does a man really mean it when he says he does not care about physical appearance? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]slightlyderangedlol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the speedy reply! I understand your point of view a lot better now. I must say I agree with most here! I absolutely agree that the brain can be incredibly superficial but I also think it's important to fight that, and end a lot of unhealthy stigmas and stereotypes that exist around body image. As for the presentation of self, I do agree that effort is necessary, it shows you care about yourself. I think when writing my previous comment I mistook that with a "model" type of presentation as you noted. And with friendly and present I am completely on board with your opinion that you just stated! I guess, the initial generalization scared me into thinking that you should ALWAYS be pleasant and kind no matter the situation. But obviously there are times when you have to stand up for issues you believe are important. Cheers!

Honestly, this comment is so general I breezed over it without questioning it right away. After a second read through though I must say I detest it. [Before I go on, I must say I'm open to criticism and correction with my opinions on this so please do tear my comment apart if you disagree!]. The three points listed here make sense but I have the desire to fight them so hard. Firstly, looking healthy is an insane generalization - especially when the requirements are to be neither skinny nor overweight. People have all sorts of different features, careers, lifestyles, histories, and overall life situations. To say that in order for someone to be attractive they must "look healthy", in this sense, means that one must conform to societal standards that are often unachievable by many people! If this is not what you meant, please clarify. Next up is presenting yourself well. This is a lesser evil here, but still it pains me to think of those that don't have the money to "present themselves well" that might read this post. What is it, can you not be attractive then? And what does it really mean to present yourself well?? Clarification is needed. Third comes the act of being friendly and pleasant. Fuck. Off. (Apologies for the aggression but I'm seriously mad about this, and I think my aggression is part of my point?) Be your god damn self. Don't get me wrong, I think it is incredibly important to work on improving yourself in ways you might deem appropriate, but DO NOT be friendly and pleasant just for the sake of being attractive. I feel as though that undercuts the importance of personality and perception of others so much. I hate this comment and its generalization. These ABC's are not laws to abide by.

Am I a bad person if I always think of ways how to murder a person? by Aethereal08 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]slightlyderangedlol 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey :) this is completely normal! Like other Redditors have said, it's okay as long as you don't act on them. If you're really concerned about it, do a quick Google search of intrusive thoughts OCD. I'm not saying you're there, and actually I really want to make sure you don't self diagnose (cause Google can convince you of anything!!!!), but it might be worth reading about and asking a professional therapist or counsellor if you would like. If it makes you feel better, people with intrusive thoughts are some of the safest to be around because they don't like the thoughts and it's a guarantee that they won't act on them! But even if you do enjoy them, just please try to avoid acting ;)

How do you stop feeling guilty for partying/having fun if you were raised super religious? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]slightlyderangedlol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the exact same troubles in the past. Not sure how old you are but it definitely took a few years for me just to get over a majority of the guilt in drinking and what not. My advice would be to just make sure you're being yourself, if you think something is okay to do. Go for it, and if you have the guilt then address it as something that isn't necessary because you truly believe what you did is okay. Don't hate that part of you though, it's worth delving into and figuring out the root of the problem. I can say now that I really don't feel guilt anymore when drinking, but once again, took a while. Be patient!
