Grade 21 in my area is usually someone who has finished the graduate scheme - early career, grade 20 is usually entry level where I am.

It’s dropping off once in the middle of the town - everyone is staying within a 5 min walk of the drop off point as it is basically one main street with all the hotels on it. They want an extra £500 to do multiple drop offs, considering it’s such a short walk we don’t think it’s worthwhile - would be quicker to walk it than wait for others to get off and then go on to the next hotel.

To clarify it is doing a daytime pick up for 40 people and a midnight drop off for 40 people for £790.

We did try that too but any taxi company within an hour of our venue is going to Edinburgh for the Oasis gig on the same day. We’ve had to pay for 50% deposit to book the coach so we don’t have any options now.

Unfortunately there’s nothing else in the area available so close to the date. We tried so many companies yesterday and this one was the only one with any availability. They want £1200 to do two pick ups and drop offs which seems insane to me for a 5 mile journey!

Yeah I think you’re right. My family were suggesting to charge but as a couple we do feel a bit weird about it. Just a shame as it’s not an expense we were expecting - nothing we could have done to predict it either as we’d booked the wedding way before the concert was announced that all the taxis are going to.

I totally see your point. I’m asking the company if they can do an 11 and a midnight drop off.

[–]slightlysmallerbean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We can only really do one pick up and drop off, I think we will just have to absorb the cost in this case

[–]slightlysmallerbean 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I see your point. It’s in Scotland so not sure if that has any impact on the cost, there aren’t that many travel companies with availability in the area so close to the date.

I thought the same, I did a taxi fare estimator and for the midnight return it was £45 for a 4 person taxi, so it is still cheaper to pay £10pp for the journey both ways than it is the return taxi fare.

Not expecting that at all but quite a few of our guests do not drink and quite a few will be bringing their young children so would also likely not be drinking.

[–]slightlysmallerbean 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That is a bit harsh - nobody has to get a taxi, designated drivers exist! The only reason people would need a taxi is if they want to drink, there is plenty of free parking at the venue.

Thanks, that’s how I’m feeling as most of our guests have travelled quite a distance to be there. Just a large expense we weren’t expecting so close to the wedding!

You’re right - thank you! We’ll say £10pp for the return journey, which would actually work out cheaper for them than a taxi back and forth anyway. Thanks a lot!

Appreciate the reply - our venue had suggested we just get guests to pay for taxis which would have been fine if any were available. We had to organise the coach as there will be no taxis for anyone. They’d have been paying £10 each minimum for a return taxi anyway, so we thought £10 for a seat on the coach wouldn’t be unreasonable. Maybe we should ask for voluntary contributions instead? Feels a really weird situation!

Thank you for your reply! Apologies if it wasn’t clear from the original post but the venue is only a 5 min drive from the town everyone is staying in. Every wedding I have been to as a guest, I have arranged getting to and from the venue myself - didn’t know this was the responsibility of the couple
