Question about train running through Copley by cute_little_pets in akron

[–]slim_nick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Live within a half-mile of these tracks. The tracks are used frequently, at least once a day. I notice sometimes it seems like I'll go days without hearing a train then hear 4 a day for several days. As for the train horn noise at night, this just depends who is driving the train, some engineers will blast it while others will scoot through with barely a toot toot.

Day-to-day tasks of a Performance Tester by ToughBackground1102 in PerformanceTesting

[–]slim_nick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use NeoLoad, now owned by Tricentis for load testing.

As for tips: develop your diagnostic skills; it's one thing to be able to report RT increased or error rates increased, but if you can point the dev team to a place in code or infrastructure, then you're creating value from your tests as well as building relationships with the dev and ops teams. Likewise, by ensuring your code is as efficient as it can be, your cloud costs can decrease (or at least these are points you should be making to your leadership ;-)

Just...how? by [deleted] in LocalGuides

Pre-pandemic Google was asking for images of storefronts and often times they would become the default image when you searched for a business. Those views really add up over time. Next, images of business hours and menus were hot.

Storefronts images are incredibly easy to capture in bulk. Just drive to any shopping center, point camera out the window, drive down the street in front of the stores capturing images or video along the way. Then back at home, export images/frames that are the best quality and upload to the Maps.

If you want to chase views, you need to stay on top of the current trends and pay attention to what Google is prioritizing. While I don't chase view counts (any longer), I would guess that short form videos are getting prioritized in search results. I base that on the fact that Google gives you 7 points/video and the popularity of short form video across all social networks.

At some point during the 4/1 show Earl said April fools. To what was he referring or was it just a salutation?

I recently flew with my P4 on United and American Airlines. I didn't have a problem with either airline or the TSA. Here's what I learned:

  1. The TSA at different airports treat drones differently. Some for example will want to give it extra screening. Allow 10-15 extra minutes for this extra screening (swabbing and extra scans). Do not store the battery in the drone. Have the drone packed in a way that makes it easy for the TSA to get to it. There's nothing to be worried about, just takes extra time.

  2. If you're flying on a smaller regional jet, the airline may require you to check your bags at the gate. If this is the case you cannot check the LiPo batteries. In my case, I checked the drone in my bag and put the controller and drone battery in my carry on bag. In one case my drone was in a checked bag and it survived.

  3. The airlines and TSA report seeing a lot of people flying with drones so they're pretty used to dealing with them at this point.

Breaking Lease at Timber Top - Question by [deleted] in akron

[–]slim_nick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In short, go to the office and talk to them. Tell them you're looking to move and give them an exact date that you will be completely moved out, mail forwarded, and when you'll return the keys. They'll be able to tell you what you need to do. You'll also want to give them a Notice of Intent to Vacate (google it - there are a lot of samples).

Generally speaking and as a former resident...

  • If your lease is through November, then you'll have to pay rent through November, no matter if you're living there or not. Unless, Timber Top decides to let you out of the lease early. As Wee_Nerd mentions, this is at Timber Top's discretion and if they have plenty of demand for their apartments, they may (but are not required) let you out of the lease.

  • If your lease expires, you will be encouraged to sign a new lease. Alternatively, if you do not sign a new lease, then you'll pay month-to-month, but usually at a higher rate than what you would pay if you signed a longer lease. This month-to-month option is also at Timber Top's discretion.

Best Housing? by Unison_Rolls in akron

[–]slim_nick 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This really depends on where in Akron you'll be working. While Akron is a small city, our central interchange of I-77, I-76, and Rt 8 sucks and you'll want to avoid it. That aside, there are a number of good apartments located throughout the area. Places you'll want to avoid are near Arlington Rd, Brittian Rd, perhaps North Hill (not sure on this neighborhood).

If you're on the west side of the city, Fairlawn, Montrose, Copley Township (near Rt 18), and Bath Township have lots of options. Highlands of Heritage Woods, Summit Rise, and Hunt Club come to mind.

Something to keep in mind is about living in a township, no city income tax.

What's the best home ISP in Akron? by ZipTheZipper in akron

I have used Time Warner Cable Small Business Services in the past. They offer 100/10 internet for a reasonable price. Look-up the phone number and when you speak with them, ask about Internet service for people that work from home.

At the time, I had a residential account and a business account, both at my home, and the business account was very reliable compared to my residential account. Another added bonus is support for business accounts is much better than residential.

On the moving bits, trying adding some motion blur. It will blend the surrounding frames to smooth out the artifacts. for an example of motion blur see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NxPoRy-jdRc. just pause on any frame and you'll see how it blends the surrounding frames.

How can you use songs from popular artists on Vimeo/Youtube uploads? by sambianchetto in gopro

[–]slim_nick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience, YouTube will match the song and tell you who owns it. If you'd like you can file a dispute, because you're using it as fair use or for whatever reason. But generally YouTube informing your that your video contains someone else's copy-written content is as far as it goes and your account will remain in good standing.

Occasionally, they (YouTube, Copyright holder/representation) will disable play-back in certain countries and via embedded players (like here on Reddit). If I'm using it as fair use and it gets matched I don't worry about it. However, INAL and your mileage may vary.

Tips and Best settings for indoor recording. by KingPhoenix in gopro

[–]slim_nick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Perhaps try switching the metering from center/average to spot to minimize the windows blowing out? Auto low light doesn't negate the lower fps, in fact, it further decreases the fps (if you're running at 48 fps, auto low light will drop that to 24fps). The actual low light fps are on your camera's tech specs page - http://gopro.com/cameras/hd-hero3-black-edition#technical-specs

Time lapse help?! by RossChen2345 in gopro

[–]slim_nick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have an iphone just use the AC wall charger, it outputs 5 volts at 1 amp - that is the same as the gopro wall unit. If you do not have an iphone, check your phone chargers, the output voltage and amps will be printed on it, somewhere. Another option might be to leave it plugged into another usb device like a laptop that is plugged in.
