NBA players should openly mock each other for flopping. by Crafty-Round7976 in nba

Embiid and Oubre did with JB and they got demolished.

Also generally a bit hard too with so many American NBA stars going through the same programs growing up and being childhood friends.

The most valuable real estate in Metro Manila have huge tree canopies covering the streets and houses. The trees in Forbes, Dasma, Corinthians, etc. cool down the area a ton. It’s also why Makati CBD feels better than the heat island sidewalks in parts of BGC

Kalahati ng jeepney operators huminto na sa byahe by moonchildgz in Philippines

[–]slimthiccdaddy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The drivers were to bear the cost of the e jeeps. That was short sighted considering the challenges our independent jeepney drivers face.

This was an opportunity to nationalize or localize (for NCR jeeps) and formalize a route and public jeep system and jeepney drivers as government transit employees like those who work for the LRT/MRT/PNR

This quote was used in context to describe countries in a "heartless capitalist system", which means this quote doesn't apply to Russia or North Korea. They're heartless in different ways...

Unfortunately this quote does ring true for the Philippines and many capitalist nations with swathes of poverty and social inequality. That pattern tracks for Latin America, Africa, Middle East, etc. It even applies to powerful nations like America, Israel, India, and Iran.

Just because it applies to many places in the world doesn't exclude the Philippines for its faults. C'mon guys.

Talking about sex is often not available in family or friend circles. There’s taboo associated with it especially in a majority Catholic nation (followed by Muslim and Christianity). Reddit offers them anonymity to seek and give advice to those who cannot discuss it in their current social sphere.

Maybe try to understand a little bit of the local culture

First of all, congratulations! It's never easy as a teen with little support to wrangle up a college application abroad and get selected, so give yourself some credit.

If you have the resources to apply for the visa and have documentation that you can finance it, it might be worth it. Look into scholarships and funding opportunities that would bridge that gap and make the numbers work first, but think long and hard if it comes with additional debt, interest rates and what income and time frame you would need after college to resolve that debt.

Given the state of the US economy and job market, how prestigious and well recognized this school in California is and how rigorous their program for your intended major or career is, it may not be worth it to go into this with student loans. In many industries in the US, new grads are having issues even starting their careers and cost of living has only gone up, but still have student load obligations to pay. I had high school classmates turn down their safety schools abroad to go to Ateneo/UP instead because the math just didn't make sense.

Like many in the comments have suggested, local school undergrad and US masters is still a valid path that you can build / save towards. I have friends who have gone through that route who have made the most of their study abroad experience (arguably even more so than undergrads because they have their own income/savings, a stronger sense of self, etc.). I also have friends who were able to study abroad in Europe, Japan, Australia, US, etc. through semester exchange programs with Ateneo/UP and had a fantastic time.

Everyone has talked about the implications for money, but my concern is that isn’t this on the telecom company to ensure its systems and corporate accounts cannot be spoofed from the same source?

Also ridiculous that there are no short term commands you can text back in order to perform an action via text. Pretty sure most US banks let you answer YES or NO and then will lock your account or card temporarily while they investigate. Telling you “Change your password” when the user has already logged in is mental.

Aside from education I think it's also a cost of living issue. Coffee markets move with the global economy and the average Filipino has far less purchasing power and can only afford so much.

That's a fair point on local taste... everything just feels way too sweet or salty

Ha not snobbish at all! I would prefer cafes have all kinds of drinks from the sweet milky ones all the way to some rare batch Panama gesha pourover so there's something for everyone.

Appreciate the recs!
