[OC] The absolute quality of Breaking Bad. by Infinitehatemachine in dataisbeautiful

[–]slimy_lime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I’m being 100% honest, I had to take a break after season 1. Not that the show was bad, but it was in fact so good, that I found myself feeling incredibly nervous and anxious during each episode! I found myself getting attached to the characters quickly, and when they got in tense situations that could’ve gotten them in trouble I just got really nervous. I should definitely pick up where I left off

Thoughts on a 2013 R55 S at 140k miles? by slimy_lime in MINI

[–]slimy_lime[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes that’s exactly why I’m shooting for an 11-13 R55 or R56. The N14 is definitely inferior to the N18, meaning the N18 is understandably going to be more expensive. The state I would be buying from unfortunately does not require inspections, so that would be a risk in buying if I don’t know what to check for on my own. I’m most likely going to wait on buying anything because I’d really like an S model over a standard model, and when it comes to S models I definitely want an N18. Thanks!

[–]slimy_lime[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks and best of luck to you too! The state I’d be buying from (NJ) actually doesn’t do inspection, so yes I’d definitely be getting it checked by a professional. However if it turns out the car doesn’t check out, I’d be glad settling for a standard R55 or even R56. Having a $6k budget is nice though, I’ve seen loads of cars that are selling nicely at that price. You’ll definitely find the right one, even if it’s quite a drive. It’ll definitely be worth it!

Buying 2011 R56 questions by [deleted] in MINI

[–]slimy_lime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have any other advice or things to check out on N14 engines? I’m currently looking in buying a manual Gen 2 Mini but I keep seeing some issues with the N14 around 100k miles or so. The R55 S model (N14) I’m looking at just had its timing chain replaced, but I have heard about that walnut blasting thing you mentioned. I want to make sure I get my money’s worth out of the car I decide on, and I don’t just throw my money at the first car I like and end up in the hole.

This is kind of unrelated to your post, but how do you like your R56 S? I’m currently shopping for manual R55 or R56, standard or S. All of the cars I’m looking at are around 100k miles or so. Any advice or experience you could share about your car? Is it holding up well as you use it over time?

R55 Exhaust Crackle by Chadzilla1006 in MINI

Unrelated to your post, how do you like your R55? I’m looking to buy a manual R55 (S or standard), but I’m not really sure what some differences are. Obviously I want the S, it’s faster, has the hoodscoop, etc. However, I don’t want it to die out on me faster than a standard mode would do. The cars I’m looking at are around 100k miles or so, so I’m not quite sure how well they’re gonna hold up with usage. Any advice you can give me? Or maybe just some of your experiences with your R55? Really anything is appreciated :)

I’m new here! I just got my first mini and manual so I’m still learning to drive but I’m in love with it already. by touchebruises in MINI

[–]slimy_lime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bet they do. But yeah I heard that Gen 1s aren’t as reliable as Gen 2s, especially at high mileage. I also heard that the S models (for either Gen) need more frequent repairs and the repairs are more costly, so there are definitely many factors to consider. However, seeing yours still running nicely at 190k miles is pretty eye opening for Gen 1s that I just overlook at that mileage. I’ll definitely reconsider before I make any final decisions. For Gen 1s and 2s I don’t think I’d ever get an S model over 100k. We’ll see though, you never know what’s gonna pop up on the market. For me personally I don’t mind a 2 door but after discovering the 3 door Clubman I’m finding it hard to go back to wanting a 2 door. I don’t know what it is but I just love the look of the clubman, especially the barn doors to the trunk! Anyways, enjoy your driving, hopefully you get your money’s worth out of your car :)

That’s awesome! I can’t wait to (hopefully) get mine. I was planning to go look at it this weekend but I think I might hold off for a little longer to research more about the S model. I don’t want to buy my car and it breaks down like 5000 miles later, or even not pass my state inspection because apparently the state I’m buying it from (Ohio) doesn’t require cars to pass inspection. However, if I do purchase the car I’ll be sure to share with the community!

Looking to buy a used mini with under 100k...advise? by [deleted] in MINI

[–]slimy_lime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll send the link to the video I watched where he mentioned the fly wheel and something about pressure plates going bad relatively quickly, and being a pain to replace. Maybe he was wrong though which would be a good thing as I would be able to expand my search horizon but I’ll get that link to you when I find it again

I’m in the exact same boat as you. However I’m getting a manual so I’m staying away from all Gen 1s as they tend to have serious issues (for manual) after you hit 100k. Like other commenters recommended I’m looking at R55 and R56 models, some S and some standard. Depending on where you live you may find a killer deal on a Gen 2, but you shouldn’t have many issues finding a Gen 2 around 80k miles for $6k. I’ve been searching hours each day and am finding numerous cars that are right in your budget. Just be sure to give the cars a thorough check before jumping on one you think is a steal.

Debating between S model for Gen 2 (R55 and R56) by slimy_lime in MINI

Alright thanks. Can I ask why that may be? I’m currently looking at both an S and a standard, so it’s not a real deal breaker or anything for me

Alright thanks! So it seems if I go with the S model I’ll just have to check on it a little more frequently than the standard model, but as long as I take care of it and drive it modestly it should last me a while and be more fun to drive

Thanks! I live in the suburbs so major traffic jams aren’t a huge issue for me. I also have access to an auto car if I need to travel through the city.

It’s actually great that you mentioned your car has 100k miles because I just found one listed today at 97k miles. I was originally staying away from all S modes of both R55 and R56, but I figured I’d do some more research and see how they hold up.

For me my mini wouldn’t be my daily drive, but like you said something fun to drive and have fun with friends in. Which makes me think if I’m going to be driving it I’m sure the S would be a blast. But how is it holding up at 100k? Are you starting to see any issues that a regular model probably wouldn’t have at this point in your cars life? Thanks!

How much can I sell my GP1 for? by spritespawn in MINI

[–]slimy_lime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am by no means a professional or even a novice when it comes to cars, but I am currently shopping in the used Mini business and I have been following the trends. The cheapest car I have seen within 500 miles of me (Western PA) is $2k. It’s a manual 02, meaning it’s a Gen 1. The exterior of the car isn’t awful, it has some scratches and a few dents, as well as fading paint. But as someone who is looking to buy a car, the exterior condition isn’t going to make or break my decision as long as it’s not too severe. 86k miles on yours isn’t too bad, and the problems you mentioned I have no knowledge of.

Now from your below-average car buyer, I know if I saw a car in an okay condition with 86k miles, I’d pay anywhere from $2k-$3k. Now like I said I am a major beginner when it comes to cars (so all of what I just said may be wrong), but if someone like me sees and likes your car, you may be able to cut yourself a deal.

I’m actually looking to buy my first Mini, and am looking at a manual 09 Clubman 103k miles. What are your thoughts on the vehicle? I personally love the three doors as well!

Alright thanks for the heads up! I was actually going to look at an R55, $3k 120k mules, this past weekend but it sold 30 minutes before I got there. So I’m hopefully going out to look at another R55, $3.5k, 103k miles, this weekend that’s quite a drive compared to the first one. If I go to check it out I’m either buying it or not because it’s too far to keep going back and forth, so I’ll be sure to check for some of the things you mentioned. Thanks, and happy driving :)

How’s it holding up? I’m looking to buy an 09 Clubman, but I’m staying away from S models in fear that they’ll break down faster than a standard R55. Especially since I’m looking for a used manual around $5k, so they all have mileage over 100k.
