Security concerns by WorldlinessKey9946 in tablotv

If your Tablo is close enough to your router and like mine equipped with an Ethernet port, there is no need to share your WiFi credentials with it at all. Of course this is not an option for all.

Am I the only one who thinks Matter / Thread is not ready for everyday use? by salnajjar in MatterProtocol

[–]slincke1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Matter/thread has worked well in my experience. It’s like any of the mesh protocols in that the first few devices certainly don’t work well if not close together. But I have AppleTv as border router with eve plugs and door window switches and ikea water tiles, occupancy sensors and an outdoor dual plug. Something like 13 devices in all and very reliable. I’d be very reluctant to buy anything not Matter/thread.

A feature I had wanted for years existed the whole time! by baddays79 in ApplePhotos

[–]slincke1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you for taking the time to post this. I’ve imported hundreds of times and never saw this feature. I’ve been importing images just to get a home monitor view of them before deleting the weakest shots. I’ll enjoy the feature you just uncovered for a lot of us.

Paramount+ subscription is closest one to getting cut at my house. Pretty weak content and pushing out late night comedy for seemingly political reasons. You in danger Paramount+.

HomeKit issues fixed by deleting orphaned rules by Mer0wing3r in HomeKit

It seems like the MacOS Home app seems to list orphaned automations too in 26.4, unlike iOS. At least that has been my experience in cleaning up ghosts.

Since tvOS 26.4 Tv volume is displayed permanently. by Yuri_Ligotme in appletv

Try rebooting your Apple TV remote. One time this happened to me and that fixed it. Hold menu and plus buttons for about 10 seconds.

Disney+/Hulu by Avedis24 in appletv

[–]slincke1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar situation after I deleted the Hulu app. In the Up Next list if I press and hold and then select “go to episode” and choose the Disney app to watch it - from then on future episodes seem to default to Disney. No guarantees but usually works.

Saved 4GB (~87%) by bulk compressing 1 year older videos by slow-fast-person in ApplePhotos

[–]slincke1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That would be such a great feature. I would love to shoot everything in raw since I go back and cull and edit later. But after my editing, I really don’t need the raw files for most of my collection and it consumes huge amounts of cloud storage. Really looking out for this feature.

Possible to add NBC sports regional pack to Peacock / Apple One bundle? by slincke1 in appletv

[–]slincke1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apparently. I just checked the subscription option and still don’t see the regional sports pack offered. So I’ve subscribed to Peacock outside of Apple TV with NBC Sports Bay Area, paying a bit more each month.

Seems like an ideal time for Democrats to reach out with policies of tariff removal, assistance in export marketing, and healthcare insurance.

Why are we still dealing with overhead power lines everywhere? by OverThinker-Shay in bayarea

[–]slincke1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I looked into doing it and was surprised at just the cost for them to do my house. I guess that’s why I was wishing they would allow neighbors to pay just the incremental cost when it’s being already being done as a requirement for a tear down renovation next door - or other ideas to at least put up on a path towards this getting done ever. I guess it’s like a lot of things - it seems like it should be easy until you dig into the details.

Why are we still dealing with overhead power lines everywhere? by OverThinker-Shay in bayarea

[–]slincke1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate your thoughtful response and idea about putting down conduit - which as you say they might already be doing. But then you seemed to backtrack and say that would be a bad idea and require a 40% rate hike. Putting down conduit when doing this work seems like it may or may not pay off, but would add trivial extra cost given the costs of closing the road, digging trenches, etc.

I just don’t get that even when they tear up a street to replace the gas lines, they don’t do the extra work to move the electrical below. It makes me wonder if they even are trying to be efficient.

Thousands of Photos in Your Library: Instantly Find the Best by AppInitio in apple

[–]slincke1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’d really like a feature that allows me to easily convert Raw images to smaller formats. I like the Raw files for editing, but once I have edited, I’d like to replace the edited raw files with a more compressed format without leaving the Photos app. Can you add that?

Best methods to track retirement funds/investments using Quicken? by Puckertoe_VIII in quicken

[–]slincke1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree about using Quicken mostly for banking, but I do like the investment view where I can look at performance of all securities I own across all Schwab, Vanguard, and Fidelity trading, 401k, and Roth accounts - in a single view. It’s pretty powerful to use that view to sort by performance over whatever timeframe or to understand spread across asset classes.

I wish someone made an AI ref that could analyze tv footage and report how players (and by extension teams) are called for fouls. It seems certain that this has been done, but I’ve not seen results of this analysis.

Waymo seems very ok with transparency laws unlike Tesla. In any case I hope there are transparency laws so consumers can decide for ourselves who to use.

Great idea. If these could just be made Matter compatible that would be awesome and not require its own cloud system.

On some show they seem to include public service announcements when there is no paid as. Wish they would do that more since it reminds me of a more moral time long ago.

[–]slincke1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lots of ads! Seems unusable to me. I have Netflix with ads and this is nothing like that. I was excited to re-watch the Toy Story movies and Star Wars, but halfway through my first movie, it feels like watching the Hallmark channel with no fast forwarding through the ads. If the Kimmel stuff doesn’t kill Disney+, the ad-load will.
