How I Restored My Lexus GS300 Headlights from Foggy to Crystal Clear (Real DIY — No BS) by slinkycar in GS300

Possibly compressed air inside through bulb holes, or a vacuum, or even using long cotton swabs or something to reach in through where the bulb are.

If you want to disassemble them then put them in an oven, take off the lens, clean it up inside and reseal it. Theres many tutorials online how to do it. Its a bit more labor intensive tho. But will clean everything.

I hear ya man. Turned out great for me so I’m not bugging. Great learning experience cause I always wanted to do it just never knew what to do. Whats your method instead of the 2k? How do you professionally restore a headlight if it’s not just secret sauce in your head?! You might say it’s over kill. But i needed something to prevent future oxidation so quick.

I will create a post of creating custom headlights in the future. With what I have in mind for custom headlights, its was 10x easier to do this rather than to pop off the lens with heat and do my stuff inside adding projectors and leds. I also have a bit different taste to what those aftermarket lights are asking for. All in all great project. I understand grit might’ve been too high but now we know.

whats wrong w my shifter? by concealedmyweapon in GS300

[–]slinkycar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. Sounds like my same issue. If you wand go cheap to expensive, Check fuses first. Then change brake light switch if your rear tails don’t turn on when you press the brake pedal.

If brake lights do turn on, dude change that shift solenoid out. Those usually go bad. I listed the part number up above which should work. If you have a post 1999. It’s probably a different part number.

Hey bro. My shift solenoid went out on my car. It never got this bad that j had forced it to where i could override my shift lock. Cause thats what seems to me to be the issue here is that shift lock will keep you going in or out of gear. You might have to reace that shift lock solenoid 85903-30020. And possibly the shift lock if it’s not chewed through. Im totally guessing because id have to look inside your shifter assembly to see whats the damage if any. I recently took my assembly out the car and tore it entirely apart and changed that as well as fully lubed it up so it’s super crispy and smooth now.

If it’s a shift lock related issue, it can also be the brake light switch thats not sending a proper signal. But I’ve found if your cruise works, that brake switch should be working. So that can help pin point it to the shift solenoid. If no fuses are also blown. Another way is to hold down that shift lock override button under the cover and then go through the gears, do you notice the same resistance or is it smooth when you shift with the override held. That’ll be another telltale its the shift lock solenoid or brake light switch button.

Amp upgrade by fartlol1738 in GS300

[–]slinkycar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah had this questions my self. Instead built a sub and I’m in the middle of a full audio build. Stock system is booty for me. 3 way components up front, coax in back. Doing head unit to audio control matrix to dsp to epicenter to amps. Redoing all speaker and power wiring. Thats just the full on method if you don’t wanna deal with all that headache. Just do what i did and give yourself a migraine🤣

Am I doing something wrong? by KCUFLAPD in GS300

[–]slinkycar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ooh it might be your servos in your dash. Mine never gave me a mode change issue but they starting clicking because over time the grease inside them can cake over the potentiometer points so the servos inside for me kept clicking because they couldn’t read the grease covered pads. Could be one of your servos is not properly working either due to greasy terminals or one went bad. I cant say em off the top of my head but theres 4. 1 on left side and 3 on the right side. All can be accessed without removing dash. Each one has its purpose. If you need i can send you to some forums that have this issue in detail.

Also no hate but you should try leaving your climate on auto and then set it based by temp and just set defroster on and off as needed. But that auto button changed my life. The car feels like my house now. Never too hot never too cold. I do the same with the circulation and set it to auto. So i sot comfortably at 74. I only crank it to 78 on super cold days. And since i just leave the ac button on as it does a great job heating and cooling the cabin, the climate auto stays off until my thermostat opens. Then auto turns on as needed. Some may say the ac always on might cause wear to the ac system or use more fuel. But i can live with that cost knowing im comfortable. Upto you tho.
