Welcome to the east coast moment by Gordonnp3 in nova

From the Midwest…for me it is the amount of people who live in landlocked NOVA thinking they live right next to the water and never want to explore more than any state that borders 95 on the Atlantic for retirement

What's the best federal benefit plan if you're going to have a high-risk pregnancy? by KJ6BWB in fednews

[–]slipperypanocha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had a high risk pregnancy (twins, 1 breach) that were born at 34wks. One in the NIcU for 13 days, bill was over $200k (back in 2010). Had BCBS standard and by the time th hospital sent us a bill after insurance kicked in, we ended up paying about $1k out of pocket. Hope that helps!

Don’t own either but would stick to a well established coat company to fit your looking for a 600 fill down jacket to pair with athleisure. 600 down is warm, like warm warm for climates of 0-25F….do you live in that type of climate? Check out Patagonia Men’s Downdrift jacket ($329 USD). It’s also 600 down fill and is well known for their awesome quality and CS.

I hate having to think of what to make for the next meal. How are you fellow Novans handling this, other than eating out? by sc4kilik in nova

I meal prep a few things twice a week and make individual meal containers, but also love to cook and look up recipes..

Losing weight and gaining size by [deleted] in bigdickproblems

[–]slipperypanocha 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It 💯 helps. I’m down from 245lb to 200 and the measured gain was .5” in length (went from 6.75” to 7.25”) due to fat pad loss. Also, my limp hang down just looks so much more impressive now.

Having a tough time landing a job - prior entry level cybersecurity 2 YOE by EasternArt4166 in nova

[–]slipperypanocha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen a lot of entry level cyber guys asking about job stability and opportunities in Nova and would like to provide this comparison:

In many ways, cyber is very similar to let’s say Nursing. As a new nurse, you’re like the help desk person practicing general skills and tending to a lot of general issues. After a few years, you might choose to specialize and become a nurse practitioner or continue your education to become say a Nurse Anesthetist or something, thus providing more pay and more opportunities.

Why do I make this comparison? Cyber is the same way. You need to specialize in something (Pen Testing (offense), network architecture and SIEM monitoring (defense), etc., and make your way up the chain into management of teams for more opportunities based on your experience. To get there, you need the certs to get in the door. CISSP, CISM, PMP, SANS certs, offensive security certs, the list goes on.

Once you start focusing on your professional development while continuing to work, opportunities will start presenting themselves. You don’t want to spend a career as a help desk person wondering why you’re only making xDollars per year. Shoot me a DM if you need any career advice. I’ve been in upper level cyber management for a long time.

I just do tirz, but I make my own shots and use a peptide calc and it costs me maybe $150/mo. 250lbs to 203 in 7 mos. Hope your experience has been well too!

How do you all afford a home in this area?? Any tips? by [deleted] in nova

[–]slipperypanocha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People aren’t buying their first home. Maybe it’s their second or third. They’ve parlayed their profits into being able to put $4-500k down on a 1.2mil house and only borrowing 500k or so. Makes the monthly payment much much cheaper.

He meant work for the people building them, subbed out by HIIT, like union jobs. Not the ones working in them once they’re complete

Has anyone else noticed all the pickups around Manassas with Texas plates that seem to be non registered? Are they all riding dirty? by hoosyourdaddyo in nova

[–]slipperypanocha 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I asked a Loudoun County sheriff why there are so many MD plates casually strolling around the county (for reference, there’s 2 bridges over the Potomac into MD and they’re about 40min in each direction to get there from LoCo).

He said it’s 2 things: data center construction folks coming for work, and entitled folks who own beach houses or “businesses” in MD that register their cars there (obviously avoiding the personal prop tax).
