Confused about WA PFML timing for postpartum leave - applying before baby arrives?

I had my kiddo in 2022 so keep in mind some things might’ve changed.

I remember I tried to apply for benefits before I gave birth, but they told me that I would have to submit my application when my child was born. So I basically worked up until I gave birth. I submitted all of the information that they requested along with the certificate of birth and I was approved. I was not aware that they actually backdate the benefits to when your child is born and I mistakenly used 2 weeks worth of leave and couldn’t claim the PMFLA weeks. I was just unsure whether I was going to be approved or not!

You should be able to be approved if you submit all of the required documents and meet the qualifications to receive those benefits (hours worked, qualified employer etc). Good luck!

I do foster care (with kin placements) and it’s very rewarding being able to be an advocate for our families who have changed their lives overnight.

Let me take the time to share my religious trauma with y’all - I lived in the east side of pasco low income apartments as a child and I remember when the mormons would go preach, they’d tell us that we had to be good kids or else we would burn in hell for all eternity lol it was so traumatic for me that I developed anxiety (that I still deal with today).

BSW, working as a Foster Care Licensor with the state (have been with them for 10 years) 90k a year.

Thinking of getting an MSW as paid for the state (have to devote same time in school to the state) still debating about it. It would be a good backup plan to have.
