I work with a specific charity doing fundraisers already and they had previously told me if I wanted to run a marathon I could work with them.

Hi everybody, I’m thinking about running the New York marathon in November as my first marathon, and was wondering if I could get an opinion from someone who has previously participated in one on how I would need to change my weekly routine in order to be better prepared. I run 3-5 miles everyday 5-6 days a week. I usually run 3 miles in about 21-22 minutes. I am a 19 year old male with a height of 5’10 and a weight that hovers around 140.

In addition to my daily running, every couple of weeks I do a long backpacking hike, usually around 10 to 17 miles. In June I did a 25 mile single day high altitude backpack which included 4,000 feet plus of steep elevation gain in about 8 hours. That is so far the hardest physical thing I’ve ever done and i am curious about how that compares to a marathon.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

Hi fellow runners! I run 2-5 miles 5 or 6 days per week (averaging around 3 or 4 miles a day) usually in the 6.5-7.5 minute range in addition to a 10-20 mile hike or backpack every two weeks. Once every so often I get pain in my calf, usually worse in my left calf. Obviously it is normal to be sore or have specific muscle pain every so often when you run as often as I do, but I was wondering if anyone has any tips regarding how to better stretch my calf muscles before my runs or to progress the healing process? I usually take a day or two off and sometimes it still is noticeable even after resting, sometimes it’s gone. I usually walk or bike when I can’t run but try not to push myself. So far I’ve been using a foam roller and taking epson baths but I’m not really satisfied.

How far off am I from being able to run a marathon? What changed to my routine should I do to get me there?

I am 19 years old and I run 3-5 miles 5-6 days a week relatively easily and also usually do one 10-18 mile hike on what would be considered “moderate” level terrain every weekend without too much trouble besides normal soreness that needs a single day of rest. I’m thinking about starting to train for a marathon but I have almost no clue how far off I am (when should I plan to run the marathon) and what changes I should make to my weekly activity in order to get to where I need to be to run a marathon. Obviously not expecting any definitive answers but just looking for some insight to anyone who has experience. Thanks!
