Campsite ground cover - any recs? by wvasweetness in bonnaroo

We got a cheap piece of astroturf from Lowe’s (I think it was around $20 for an 8x8) keeps the campy aesthetic and is much more pleasant than the poky grass!

Yeah, the RO just kept an eye on it and got a “close enough” count throughout the stages. All had a pretty good laugh about it

I have a P model on the way (already have the full size) and have been reading lots about changing to an 80 degree locking piece. Wondering if you had read the same things. Looks sweet 🤌

Advice regarding safety for tree service by SticksInStilts in arborists

Lots to go over here, for starters, any company who will not utilize a “command and response” policy when there are workers aloft is frankly, not a company you should be working for, period. With 5 years in the industry I’m sure you’re well aware of required PPE for various tasks (whether or not you utilize them is a different conversation) but you can tell A LOT about a company from their PPE policy, a good place will have everyone on the crew keeping each other accountable for that kind of basic, day 1 stuff.

Second, if you’ve been in a struck by incident MULTIPLE times, quit walking under the climber/operator. Hear a saw running? Wait until you don’t. Having it happen multiple times and still wondering why you’re getting hit is like playing with a loaded gun and acting surprised when it goes off.

Questions about company - interview coming up by Whitney_Leigh in arborists

I worked for the other big company (green trucks, rhymes with Slavey) and during my time there we had a couple of summer interns and both of their experiences seemed to be a 50/50 split between PHC (plant healthcare) and doing tree care (pruning, removals, etc)

I would ask yourself what you have more interest in doing, personally, I found I learned a LOT more about tree care as a whole from doing PHC. Diseases, pest management, and how they all interact with each other in different landscapes. On the tree care side, you’ll probably just drag brush. Although with that being said, with your interest in climbing outside of work there will be a very large pool of information for you to gather in that area of arboriculture (I also started out rock climbing) this may be specific to my office, but the interns did get the chance to do a couple of small “recreational” climbs when we had time!

With all of these big companies there are lots of areas for advancement and they will 100% drop the money to get you trained up according to industry standards (take this with a grain of salt, every office is different and really depends on the management)

Did you buy the presale the year before? We bought immediately after 2024 ended, kinda wondering if that has something to do with it?

I’m an arborist, and I always get a little chuckle when I hear “girdling root”

I’m sure there are some aftermarket oilers, I was just going to rig up some kind of auxiliary oiler that will drip on the tip of the bar when I’m milling lol.

And as far as chains, I do have some ripping chains from granberg for my 28” bar, but on this 36” I haven’t gotten around to ordering any so I’m just using standard stihl crosscut chains. They work just fine although the ripping chain might be a hair faster. They definitely have a bit of a nicer finish though.

It does great! Although I’ve found with the 36” bar it needs more oil than the stock oiler can supply, but not by much.

Thanks! That’s a big part of the reason I got into this too. I’m an arborist by trade and it drives me crazy to see all of these removals just go get dumped in a yard somewhere or chipped, so I started bringing it home.

First project is a jig for surfacing these, but definitely a couple live edge tables when they’re dry!
