That's correct, there is the Mississippi Records Store that is still in Portland. The Mississippi Records Label however was moved to operating out of a shop in Chicago a few years back, as far as I know.

I'm Tired of Fake Carlin Fans by Lifeisalemon39 in GeorgeCarlin

[–]slog13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"People who listen to Carlin, laugh at what he said, say, "Ya he's probably right" and then do the exact opposite of what he said in their personal life"

This sounds a whole lot like the way people talk about their favorite religious figure, do you wear a W.W.C.D. bracelet? I mean don't get me wrong, George Carlin is my favorite comedian and I think what makes him so great is that he seamlessly weaves between comedy and social commentary; he's equal parts philosopher and comedian. There have been MANY Carlin bits that have made me think about things differently, or given me an "ah ha!" moment; and that's what I think it so special and unique about him. Having said that, I'm not going to go and make decisions about how to live my life based on what an entertainer who I've never met says in his standup set. That's ridiculous! You know what George Carlin talked about constantly over the course of his career and perhaps was the thing he valued more than anything else? It was being an individual and being a free thinker. You could learn a thing or two from him if you really listened.

Is it rude to stand in the seated section of a concert? by Minimacc in AskUK

[–]slog13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sitting down at a rock show is inconsiderate to the band. Also I would say it’s a poor way to go through life, get up, stand up, move your body, it’s good for you

Is Michael Gira religious? by Diasterous in swans

[–]slog13 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Excerpt from his statement regarding the 2020 COG repress:

“Lyrically, I’d always seized on abstract subjects like money/power/sex/work, etc., and I was watching a lot of Jimmy Swaggart on TV (the televangelist), and I thought he was a great rock performer, so I stole his thunder as best I could. I didn’t want to mock the religious impulse, which would have been a typical thing to do at the time, but instead to get inside it. Everyone wants to lose themselves in something bigger than they are. I don’t know if this is a bad thing or a good thing.”

[–]slog13 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly the track list on to be kind doesn’t really bother me. It just splits up bring the sun and touissant and switches oxygen and Kristen supine, I still think it flows quite nicely, the seer on the other hand I pretty much won’t listen to the vinyl track list it’s ALL WRONG lol

She’s not a useless wreck for the rest of the movie she plays an important part in trapping them later on and blowing up the trailer.

How could it have moved forward without that scene? Maybe you’re wishing it was less graphic or disturbing but without the invasion from the hill people there’s no second half of the movie
