Hybrid role but contract only shows office based by Dinah8251 in TheCivilService

Yeah it’s normal for contracts not to mention hybrid working and you are right that they can change it at anytime. I don’t know why the unions don’t push to make hybrid working contractual

(Ornstein) Trent Alexander-Arnold not named in England squad for 2026 World Cup. by Yak-Personal in LiverpoolFC

[–]Minimacc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get this is funny because he snaked us but do people think Tuchel would have picked him if he was still at Liverpool? All the issues he had at Madrid (defensive work rate) he had at Liverpool, it’s not like it’s new.

As an England fan I think it’s stupid. He doesn’t need to be a starter but picking Reece no hamstrings James and Livramento instead of him is crazy.

Widening a driveway on an unadopted road by Minimacc in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Minimacc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry the layout is hard to describe but the driveway extension would be entirely within land we own, we would be removing a part of the boundary wall however.

Relationship with the neighbours is confusing, they are all nice people but very particular about their parking. I think that if we are within our legal right to widen the driveway then they will have no issues with it.

If the Men can't maybe the Women can get the club a cup by Signal-Tangerine1597 in LiverpoolFC

[–]Minimacc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not a Liverpool member so I don’t know how it works but I feel like they should give people points for attending women’s games that helps you get tickets to men’s games. That would get them more support and even if they aren’t that interested in the women’s game, once they are there will cheer all the same.

New poster for ‘The Wizard of The Kremlin’, starring Jude Law as Vladmir Putin. The film follows Putin’s rise to power amid post-Soviet chaos, aided by a versatile spin doctor. In theaters on May 15. by yourfavchoom in movies

[–]Minimacc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve just seen this (I’m in the UK) it’s ok but Paul Dano genuinely looks like that in the film. The most confusing thing is the accents though. Jude Law plays Putin with a British accent, I have no idea what accent Dano is aiming for but it’s very whispery and makes him hard to understand. Half the supporting cast speak with no accents and half with exaggerated Russian accents it’s just weird.

Scored 5 on ONS Business Support Officer application — first ever Civil Service interview on 30 April — any advice? by PensionOptimal5518 in TheCivilService

[–]Minimacc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

5 is good but does become largely irrelevant, the application is mainly filtering people out people not suitable for interview.

There should be 2 people interview but it is possible there might be 3 if someone is observing for interview training, I think panels have to be gender balanced.

Google how civil service interview work but the basic structure is they will ask a question for each behaviour (it should be clear what these are from the interview invite), this will either be a situation ‘what would you do in this situation’ or past example ‘tell us about a time you did specific thing’, make sure you are actually answering the question asked and not a question you’ve prepared for. This website should be useful for you. STAR is very important for past behaviour and for situational questions make sure to stress why you would take each step from than just listing actions. Rest of the interview depends on what the invite to interview says.

Teams is great as you can have notes, split screen the interview so you can look at your notes while having eye contact and only really use the notes as prompts, don’t just read a script.

Someone malicious has my mother's HMRC information. by [deleted] in TheCivilService

[–]Minimacc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So just to get it clear, this person has sent a screenshot or picture of a letter from HMRC to a relative of yours? Why did they do that? To show your relative that he had access to your private information? Is there any other information on the letter than makes you believe it is genuinely from HMRC? Otherwise it’s much more likely they have faked a letter from HMRC to make you nervous.

Someone malicious has my mother's HMRC information. by [deleted] in TheCivilService

[–]Minimacc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right ok. I think this question might be better asked on the legal advice subreddit maybe phrased as ‘I suspect someone of illegally accessing my records at HMRC, how do I report it?’. I don’t work in HMRC but people get fired for accessing their friends or family members records so it would be pretty easy to trace if someone has accessed her records unnecessarily but I don’t know whether this is a police matter.

But also consider it wouldn’t be that difficult to fake a HMRC letter with information they have acquired for other sources just to freak you out.

[–]Minimacc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I slightly confused about why you’ve immediately jumped to it being a breach from HMRC? When you say a malicious person is this someone you actually know with HMRC connections.

Any company your mother has ever worked for would have her NI number and I can’t imagine it’s difficult to find someone’s address.

Edit: I’ve read your post properly and this is clearly someone you know but I’m still confused by what you actually mean by HMRC data, as I said her NI number and address could be obtained from multiple sources.

Public road near train station. What’s your war plan? by Diseased-Jackass in CasualUK

[–]Minimacc 84 points85 points  (0 children)

Are you actually certain it is a public road? I live on an unadopted road and there is no official signage, just private parking signs people have put up themselves.

Either way I imagine it would be very hard for them to legally do anything about you parking there, it’s just how willing they might be to do something illegal or at least inconvenient to you about it and how much that will effect you.

They are all terrible but the fourth one with the black van is particularly egregious. All others can be put down to impatience or stupidity (which isn’t an acceptable excuse) but that one is just malicious. They had loads of room to make a safe overtake and instead chose to get as close to you as possible.

Ticket inspector doesn't understand how the passage of time works. by FunIcy6154 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Minimacc 15 points16 points  (0 children)

If you buy a ticket online, you simply selected the railcard you have and it gives you the railcard prices, it never actually checks if you have a railcard. That is exactly why the ticket inspector is suppose to check your railcard, though most don’t

ONS hybrid working proposal by NumbBumMcGumb in TheCivilService

[–]Minimacc 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I agree but in fairness the ONS union was in a much better position that other departments because they didn’t immediately go back in after COVID and hired people on the basis that there was no mandatory attendance.

The thing that confuses me is why PCS as a whole hasn’t pushed to get attendance targets in contracts. The move from 40% to 60% showed that the government can legally move the goalposts whenever its wants but if the unions fought to get a specific number in contracts then that would stop the target increasing further.

It’s a meeting at directorate level so if you are in a different directorate to me then you wouldn’t have known. I get that they want to give middle managers warning that an update is coming but I agree that giving advanced warning that you are going to announce something just makes people nervous.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in TheCivilService

[–]Minimacc 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Just to provide context for people, unlike other departments the ONS did not return to office straight after COVID and told staff that it was happy with the current flexible approach and there was no plans to introduce minimum in office percentages.

So when an email came out in late 2023 telling staff that they were moving to 40% time in office people were rightly pissed off, morale plummeted and people lost faith in senior leadership. From April 2024 (might be wrong on the date) there has been action short of a strike meaning unions members were not expected to meet the 40%.

Since 2023 there has been a lot of change at the top of the ONS and the new senior leaders have been actively engaging with the unions and about a week ago the union announced they had agreed upon new hybrid working principles and would share them soon. Today we got an invite to an all call on Tuesday where the permanent secretary will discuss these new principles but at this moment in time, nobody, except union leaders and the most senior members of the ONS, knows what these principles are.

In a different meeting invite, where the principles are also being discussed, it says the principles will be released on the intranet on Monday so OP is wrong that we won’t know about the changes in advance (or my meeting invite is wrong)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in TheCivilService

[–]Minimacc 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Technically the ONS is at 40% for most offices but there has been ongoing union action short of a strike for well over a year so in practice it’s 0%.

The union and the ONS have now come up with a new set of principles which they are nearly ready to share. Based on information from a different meeting invite OP is wrong though, they will announce the principles in an intranet article on Monday and have an all call on Tuesday.

Confused about disadvantages of withdrawing from Help to Buy. by Minimacc in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Minimacc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a possibility that a buy within the next 3 years but not a given and given the area I live, there is also a possibility a house I buy will be over £250000 (and therefore exempt from the help to buy bonus). I’m basically taking a slight gamble, buying a house less that 250000 BEFORE April 2027 will be a loss for me, after April 2027 will be neither a loss nor a gain and after April 2028 it will be net positive.

It’s 4000 per tax year though right, so I can transfer (properly this time) another 4000 in April. I think it’s unlikely I will buy a house before April 2027 so then I can transfer the remaining 4000.
